The Hawks aren't THAT bad when you look at their team ... Horford, Joe Johnson (gotta love that trade where the Celtics landed Tony Delk and Rodney Rodgers! PRAISE THE LORD!), and Bibby (even though he's past his prime) are very good players - it obviously goes without saying that Johnson and Bibby are all-stars, while Horford is most definitely one in the making. Smith blocks shots like a porn star takes them, and Marvin Williams has been pretty solid throughout the series. Childress is a pretty decent 6th guy... Pachulia does the little things. The only thing that hurt them during the regular season was their youth. Maybe I'm in the minority, but they have a lot of talent on that team, and it's starting to shine through in this series. I don't think they're that much worse, if not worse at all, than the Raptors or 76ers. This series would be over if Doc could draw up decent plays in crunch time. Last night when the Celtics were going for the tie with around 40 seconds left, the best he could do was Allen attempting to come off a pick for a 3? Come the fuck on. You don't need a 3 there... Garnett was wide open in the key for an easy 2 anyway. Instead, Allen takes a running jump shot with a hand in his face and doesn't even come close.
If Doc was any good at all, this series would've been over a couple days ago. I credit the players for the incredible season they've had to this point...not Doc. So many people up here in Boston are upset that Doc got "snubbed" of the coach of the year award - well, I've got news for them (and even to that extent, it's not really news). He didn't get snubbed because he's not that good. It was the players.
If Doc continues to coach like this, the Cavs will handle the Celtics in round 2, provided that the Celtics win Sunday afternoon. I think they will, because I don't see the Hawks winning away from home, but I'm pretty nervous.
