And another thing to consider if you're Pettitte is that although reports are that the Yankees are content going into the season with Hughes as the #5, I have to think the Yanks would have to consider looking elsewhere to fill the spot that was intended for Andy. Say a Lowe, Sheets, etc. Andy might find himself without a spot if he drags this out too long.
Then again I suppose the possibility exists that if the Yankees do sign another starter and then Pettitte decides he wants to return that Joba could go to the pen to accomodate both Andy and whoever else would have been signed. I think that's the best case scenario. But it seems the Yankees are pretty set on letting Joba start out in the rotation.
