While Tiger Woods is obviously the heavy favorite coming into this year's PGA Championship, I think Baltrusol may prove to be a challenge for him to win his third major this year.

Reports have the course playing very tight for this year's final major. Narrow fairways will be the norm, which will be quite a change from the Old Course at St. Andrew's where Woods either lead or was close to leading the field in fairways hit. The primary rough will be 4" long.

I still think Tiger will win if he is able to continue his accurate driving, however I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the traditionally more accurate hitters (Funk, Goosen, Toms, DiMarco) come out on top.

What do you think golf fans?

I'm no golf fanatic, but I have been getting into it recently. It's definitely more fun to play than it is to watch. For some reason I've ben puling for Goosen a lot recently (maybe because he has a cool name?), so I guess I'll be rooting for him.

Yeah, if I ever want a nice afternoon nap on the weekends, putting golf on the tube usually works for me. I'd much rather play, which I do about once a week.

Umm, what about Singh, Els, Mickelson? And will Garcia ever win one?

I'm not even going to try and pretend to be an expert on this. :D

If Mickelson, Els, or Garcia can manage the course and stay out of the rough, then the chances are good. Singh hasn't struggled with his accuracy, but his putter has disappeared for a little while.

Wow, Woods shot a "Roger Maris" yesterday, to quote SC, 61. He won 4/5 tournaments the last time he shot that score. Didn't check the score today, but yesterday he trailed Singh. Els is sitting out for the rest of the PGA season due to knee injury from a sailing accident.

How do you feel about Michelle Wie trying to play on the men's side? And does Annika Sorenstam need to compete with the men to "validate" her status as one of the best golfers?

ORS

Last I checked Woods was down 9 to Vijay (-22 to -13).

Wie playing with the men is a bad publicity stunt. She hasn't even beaten professional women yet.

Sorenstam's legacy isn't dependent on competing against men.

Tiger Woods this week has been one of the ballsiest performances in sports I've ever seen. I know a lot of casual sports fans would be quick to point out that "it's golf" -- but at this level, what he's done, playing through the pain he must be feeling, whether he wins this tournament or not, has been absolutely amazing, in my book.

By the way, I'm cheering for Tiger all the way but Rocco Mediate makes it damn near impossible to cheer against him -- he, in what little I've seen of him, seems like such a nice guy... great outlook on the tournament and everything.

It's an 18 hole playoff, right? This is going to be amazing.

Did anybody doubt that put was finding the bottom of the cup? The guy is the best clutch putter I've ever seen.

Too bad I'll miss the playoff while I'm at work, but I do have XM.

Well, the first 4 are completed with Rocco only grabbing a 1 stroke lead. Prior to today, Tiger played the first 4 at +4, while Mediate played them -5.

Tiger knocks it stiff at 6. Rocco flies the green. Rocco chips inside Tiger's ball. Tiger birdies. Rocco pars.

Tiger E, Rocco +1.

Wash, rinse, repeat at #7.

Tiger -1, Rocco +1.

Here come the tee-shots at the par 3 8th.

Tiger: Back bunker
Rocco: 10 yds short

With a par 5 to close the 9, Rocco needs to do something on his up and down here, or he could be looking at a 3 shot deficit at the turn.

Tiger is 7 kinds of clutch. I couldn't even believe him on that one.

This is pretty exciting. It all comes down to the 18th hole with Mediate having a 1 stroke lead. Should be a good finish.

That was unreal. My cable went out for a few clutch putts and I was livid -- I think it was 16, 17, and it started to flicker off and on a bit on 18. Tiger's just immune to pressure, you can tell it got to Mediate a few times. Both guys are so likable, too. As impressive of a performance by Woods as I've ever seen.

It was extremely competitive, but in my opinion it wasn't very intense. These guys didn't shoot the same score on a single hole more than 3? times and were smiling and laughing it up.

See: Bob May for intense golf in a major.

yup.. over the next 6 to 8 months when you watch a golf tournament all you'll be hearing from the announcers is " I wonder how tiger would of shot if he would of been here"
