Port St. Lucie (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals acquired outfielder Roger Cedeno from the New York Mets Saturday, shipping out catcher Chris Widger and infielder Wilson Delgado.

The Cardinals also received cash considerations from New York.

Cedeno batted .267 with 70 runs scored, 25 doubles, and just 14 stolen bases in 148 games last year. He struggled mightily in the first half of the season before picking up his play in August.

The 29-year-old outfielder is entering his 10th season in the big leagues, having spent time with Detroit, Houston and Los Angeles in addition to his time in New York.

Widger, 32, split his 2003 campaign with St. Louis and Triple-A Memphis. In 44 games with the Cardinals, he hit .235 with nine doubles and 14 RBI. Widger has spent parts of nine seasons in the majors, his best year coming in 1999 with Montreal when he finished with a .264 batting average to go with 14 homers and 56 RBI.

Delgado, a 31-year-old switch-hitter, has played everywhere on the infield except for first base in his 10 years in the majors. A part-time player for his entire career, Delgado has played for San Francisco, Kansas City, Anaheim, St. Louis, and the New York Yankees.

In 63 combined games with the Angels and Cardinals in 2003, Delgado hit. 228 with 12 runs scored and seven RBI.

I dont think anything St. Louis does can put them over Chicago/Houston in that division. One of those teams will win the division and the other will win the wild card, so St. Louis gets shafted.
