according to mlb.com, the mets have just acquired:

SP Kris Benson (from PIT)

SP Victor Zambrano (from TB)

i expected kris benson to go to the mets, but i didnt expect them to also land victor zambrano, a solid starter who was having a good year in TB, despite his control. i think a change of scenery and the fact that he is in NY could help zambrano get to be better. i think the mets have a legit chance to at least make NL wildcard, even though it will be hard to get it with the phillies, braves and marlins in their way in their own division. if not this year, next year they will climb again.

what are your thoughts about this?

Looks like they are making a push, but they have to jump over 3 teams for first place.

The reports are true. Benson and Zambrano are headed to the Mets...Benson's supposed to start tomorrow against Atlanta.

The Mets gave up 3 top prospects (Peterson, Huber, Kazmir) in these deals, despite the fact that they're 6 games out and currently UNDER .500

That being said, it's probably going to be the easiest division in baseball to win.

I hope the Mets win, but only because it pisses George off....

I hope the Mets don't win the division because any team that stupid to mortgage three big-time studs for two back of the rotation starters when their team is under .500 doesn't deserve to win.

If I were the Mets GM Jim Duqutte I would trade for Benson just to check out his wife.

Well they are resigning benson so I agree with that one but not with Zambrano they sold too much of thier future and they are out they are not making the playoffs this year there is jsut too much ground to make up.

According to the Mets, Rick Peterson is known as the best pitching coach, and he said he could fix Zambrano in 10 minutes.

Is Zambrano in a contract year?
