what are the entire winter leagues. I know there is a league in the dominican, in venezuela and in hawaii. Is this league you are talking about one with MLB players or is this a development league?

Are the parks in the winter leagues, primarily hitters parks?

Let me try to answer this questions, In Venezuela there's the regular Winter league composed mainly of AA-AAA players and a sprinkle of ML players, the development league or Paralela is for young players and that is where the mentioned Sox farmhands played. There is also a Winter league in the Dominican, Puerto Rico and Mexico. The Hawaian league its very similar to the Paralela.

The stadiums in the Winter leagues are similar to those that you find in the minor leagues, which means there are hitters park and and pitchers park.

Martinez has shown dramatic improvement, since last season he played in the exact same league and his ERA was 4.58, and he gave up many more walks.

Edgar is a far better pitcher than he was in 2005, not a fished product, but he is getting closer.

Scaff, you have to be a little disappointed in Moss's performance in the DWL, as he proved again that he is prone to long stretches in the bucket after a hot start. Granted, this was a long year for him, but still. How does this impact his standing as a prospect?

Bosox, Yes Moss was disappointing in the Dominican Winter league, specially after a hot start, however I still like him over David Murphy and i guess i am not alone on this, i read the other day BA's Jim Callis and he shares the same opinion. The 2007 at Pawtucket will be very important for Moss.

Here is what diehard said about both Moss and Murphy.

7.) David Murphy, OF: His star seemed to dim when he opened the year at Double-A Portland for the second straight season, but Murphy earned a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket May 26 and enjoyed a scorching two-month stretch for the PawSox (31 extra-base hits in his first 237 at-bats, a rate of one extra-base hit every 7.65 at-bats). He slowed down in August (.210 with five extra-base hits in 81 at-bats) but still earned a September promotion to the Sox and not only delivered a hit in his first big league at-bat Sept. 2 but also hit a leadoff homer at Yankee Stadium 15 days later. Questions still remain about his defense and power, so he may never be the full-timer the Sox envisioned when they selected Murphy in the first round of the 2003 draft. But he could be a reliable reserve outfielder as soon as this season, Stock: Rising

6.) Brandon Moss, OF: Surprisingly spent a second straight season at Portland, but the Sea Dogs profited from the caution when Moss hit five homers in the postseason and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Eastern League Championship Series. While he hit for a higher average (.285) than in 2005, racked up 22 more RBI (83) and finished second in the EL in RBI and first in doubles (36), Moss finished with the same number of extra-base hits (51) and incrementally improved his walk-to-strikeout ratio. At 23, he’s still got youth on his side, but he needs a big year at Pawtucket this season in order to establish himself as anything more than a potential fourth outfielder. Stock: Holding

My perspective right now is that Moss has more talent (or upside, maybe, depending on your definition) than Murphy, but his streakiness is just prohibitive right now. I assumed that the stint in winter ball was intended to put him up against some weaker pitching, allow him to continue with the hot bat and gain some confidence in the hopes that it would help him perform more consistently.

Instead he tanked, and that is what concerns me about Moss. We saw this with Millar - you love those 1.000 OPS months (not that we'd expect that from Moss with his IsoD), but it's pretty tough to know when those are coming as a manager, and if they stop coming, well, it's ugly. Let's hope he learns from this and puts it together in Pawtucket this year.

based solely on the strength of the sox draft and the betterment of David Murphy, Moss, may drop out of the top 10.

Neither is a top 10 prospect, but Moss should be ranked higher and a higher ceiling, there's to many question about Murphy's bat.

Murphy getting the callup to the majors last yr was enough to bring him up. Moss still hasnt developed the way they wanted him to and he is running out of time.

Murphy is older and his AAA season was over or very close to been over, on the other hand Moss's team was in the middle of playoff not reason to promote him, but just because Murphy made to Boston for a cup of coffee first it doesn't make him a better prospect.
