Mine are:

Full Metal Jacket
Platoon
Saving Private Ryan

What else?

This doesn't really count, but the Band of Brothers series on HBO was awesome, as well.

Saving Private Ryan is the best.
Black Hawk Down
Band of Brothers
Platoon
MASH

I'm a sucker for Pearl Harbor even though I know it's weak.

I never fully understood why Apocalypse Now was considered so great. The second half sucked.

I'm about to watch Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Ewo Jima this week.

Full Metal Jacket(I remember I saw it before but don't really remember it that much)

I know this isn't directly a war movie, but Lord of War was a pretty gnarly flick.

A good book is Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose, which is what the mini series is based off of. But the book is better, it goes in more depth of what happened and how it happened. I admit, I cried at the end of both the mini series and the book where it talks about what happened to them after the war.

If you like WWII movies Das Boot is really good. It is about a German U-boat. Be prepared though, because it is like 3 1/2 hours long.
