Yankees to sign Mark Loretta
Per Buster Olney.
Last yr he put together essentially the same numbers as he did with the sox. He's a nice bench guy to have around, but certainly not a nice starter to have around. I just hope this isnt a pre-emptive move prior to a deal involving Cano.

After signing Posada and Mo - Cashman is on target with his mission of 'let's get young'. I was shocked that he did not give another chance to Mark Belhorne.

Re: Yankees to sign Mark Loretta
I like Loretta a lot too. Loved his walk-off HR on Patriot's Day 2006.

Re: Yankees to sign Mark Loretta
Loretta will probably get a standing O his first AB, not an O-Cab type one of course but his solid 2006 season shouldnt be forgotten (including 2 walkoffs)

Re: Yankees to sign Mark Loretta
I'm sure Loretta's a great guy. He's just a shitty baseball player.

You can't be serious. Loretta is not a superstar...never has been, never will be...but he's far from shitty.
A guy like this is great to have around...he did everything the Sox asked him to do. Lifetime .300 hitter, solid clubhouse guy, extremely proficient and hitting with a runner on first which makes him invaluable off of the bench. Not to mention the fact that he can play every infield position besides pitcher and catcher...certainly makes pinch-hitting him in the late innings a lot easier. He doesn't have the range of some of the premier infielders or the younger guys, but he's still well beyond adequate with the glove.

Nah. His second half of '06 really clouds my judgment though.

Re: Yankees to sign Mark Loretta
I will take Loretta over Alexis Cora any day.
That said - I do not want him to be an everyday player.

Re: Yankees to sign Mark Loretta
UPDATE, 12-01-07 at 1pm: Olney now says the Yanks don't have any serious interest in Loretta, and haven't spoken to him in over a month.

Re: Yankees to sign Mark Loretta
he served as a pretty good bridge until Pedroia was ready but I don't fear seeing him in pinstripes
