Hank tampering?
I posted a bunh of quotes in the Johan thread but it might deserve its own discussion..
http://www.startribune.com/blogs/christensen/?p=432
Quote:
Hank Steinbrenner is a reporter’s dream. He shoots from the hip. He wears his emotions on his sleeve. He says things other baseball executives don’t say.
Baseball’s tampering rules prohibit officials from publicly discussing other teams’ players. Last night, Hank told the AP, “As much as I want Santana, and you can make that clear — for his sake, to know that I do want him — the fact is that I’m not going to play the game.”
Blatant tampering.

Now, back to Steinbrenner-gate.
A Twins official this morning confirmed that the club is not pleased with comments made by Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner about trade talks involving Santana.
When asked if he thought the comments constituted tampering, the official replied, “We’re not happy. We’ll deal with this internally.'’
Steinbrenner made his comments on Sunday while threatening to pull out of talks with the Twins over the two-time Cy Young award winner.
While charging that the Twins were playing his team against the Red Sox in the Santana sweepstakes, he said the following:
“Because as much as I want Santana, and you can make that clear — for his sake, to know that I do want him — but the fact is that I’m not going to play the game,'’ Steinbrenner said.
It’s unsure if the Twins will pursue tampering charges (or what the penalties are) but it’s definitely added even more spice to the Twins attempts to trade Santana - as if more was needed.

The Twins, expected to resume discussions with the Yankees and Red Sox about left-hander Johan Santana on Monday, are considering filing tampering charges against the Yankees because of Hank Steinbrenner's public comments about the pitcher, according to a major-league source.

Re: Hank tampering?
Hank talks too much, he needs to shut up. The Twins must be laughing at his "deadline," the Yankees FO has no credibility now.

Re: Hank tampering?
No doubt Hank has done plenty of tampering this winter, but so have a lot of other execs. Not excusing Hank's actions, just in the past few weeks it's actually occurred to me how many times i've heard execs mention other team's players by name. Off the top of my head I cant think of any as blatant as Hank's, but it has been happening in excess this offseason. I was quite confused to say the least, I thought that without any complaints (until now) so far that perhaps the tampering rules may have been altered somewhat, but that wouldnt make sense. Nice to see someone finally get called on it...

Re: Hank tampering?
well gee, im kinda tired but i'll go on a goose-hunt right now and try to find some..just for you Kilo.
I mean, its not like i'm making that claim to excuse or condone what Hanks ben doing, I was saying that to address it, and how its been done alot all offseason and nobody has taken issue with it, which is wrong. I'll try to find some quotes...
