Default Yankees and Giants Discussing Matsui Deal

Quote:
The Journal News confirms that the Yankees and Giants have had discussions involving Hideki Matsui.

If the Giants trade for Matsui, it'd be because they care more about getting a few additional fannies into seats in 2008 than putting together a contender. Matsui remains a fine player, but he's had just one great season in five years in the majors, he's below average defensively and he's entering his age-34 season. He's exactly the player the Giants should be avoiding. Instead of giving up talent and then paying Matsui $13 million per season for the next two years, it'd make far more sense to make a big run at Kosuke Fukudome. They also could have beaten the Dodgers' bid for Andruw Jones

Matsui has a full no trade clause - I would be surprised if he waved that to play for the Giants.

Reports are that he would waive it.

If we get someone who can throw the ball and be relied upon (like Cain or Lincecum), then wonderful. Otherwise, the Giants dont have much in terms of prospects and the rest of their team stinks. And, I dont like the idea of giving up a player who is essentially a guarantee to hit .290-25-100 if healthy.

You seriously think you can get Cain or Lincecum for Matsui straight up? That will beat the Abreau deal from last year.

lolwut

No way you get Cain or Lincecum for Matsui if the Jays can't get one of them for Rios.

I dont think we get either without adding something, but I wouldnt deal Matsui for nothing. And aside from those two guys, that is what I think the Giants have.

They are talking Jonathan Sanchez or Noah Lowry. I think that is a bad deal. Sanchez has the most upside, but he looks like he's slating out to be a reliever and Lowrie is everything we dont need. A soft tossing lefty who cannot K people and cannot keep baserunners off the bases. Sounds a lot like Igawa.

But Cashman went out and got Igawa, knowing he was a soft tossing LHP...

I know. I think they have soured on those types. The problem is that Lowrie has a 1.55WHIP in the worst division in all of baseball. Imagine what he does when he comes to the best.
