The franchise rookie gave up three hits in a row and ARod has made an error for a 3-1 Oriole lead with 1 out in the sixth. The franchise has been knocked out of the game.

the franchise looked good today. Probably shouldnt have been brought out for the 6th. Too many deep counts early on.

Yeah, he looked good. He brought his ERA down a tad below 9.

fact is, he threw 91-94 today, had a ton of break on the curve and his slider looked good. His problem was that the curve broke so well he couldnt get it over the plate. Come the 6th as he approached 90 pitches, his fastball started creeping over the plate and they hit him. It didnt help that Hawkins just got pounded on arrival.

The problem is that he blows. A couple of more loses like this without a win and he will find himself in the minors.

the ny media talks a good game when the topic of patience is discussed
the reality is they take fresh meat and chew it like veal
16 straight manny questions at girardi on why he pitched to him?
hes played here but hes never been the pivot man in the steinbrenner/media circle jerk that ny managers endure and thats another thing altogether

Maybe Girardi should have him start all games with rain in the forecast.

Fuck Hughes. Piece of shit. Bring back Pavano.

Ok, maybe not that much. Truth is, I'd rather see Igawa pitch than Hughes, Kennedy, or Mussina. Every time I watch these kids shit the bed, and see how Santana is playing for the Mets...lets just say I can't eat as much food as I'd want to vomit.

P.S. Leave Jacko alone. He is clueless about the Yankees. Let him live in his world where Hughes and Kennedy are the next coming of Koufax and Drysdale. Real Yankee fans know better.

I dont see how you can say that Gom. No good, young pitcher is going to be lights out early on. All of them, ALL OF THEM struggled at some point in the early stages of their career. Once they (or at least Hughes) get through it I'm confident Hughes will have a brilliant career. He has too much talent not too.

Limiting discussion to the twenty pitchers BP PECOTA considers most comparable to Phil Hughes at his age entering 2008, Bob Moose, Gary Nolan, Jim Palmer, Storm Davis, Bill Gullickson, Carlos Zambrano, Britt Burns, Dennis Eckersley and Don Drysdale made it to age 25 without any big setbacks, IMO. The other eleven did have struggles, IMO...that's about a 50-50 mix.

Hughes is struggling in 2008. It's early, but it's tough completely turning around an 0-3 record with an 8.82 ERA in one's first four starts. I'd be a little less critical than Gom here, but I'm I lot less confident than you're being, 26 to 6. Hughes isn't panning out the way many successful first-round highly touted picks do...at least not yet.
