Re: 2008 Yankee News & Notes Thread
I think it's too soon. Defeats the purpose of sending him down there.
Where's Boomer at? hahah
Not that he would be any better, but I really think IPK should stay in SWB for a little bit. What about Giese or White or something. I hope it works out, but I think it's a mistake. I guess we'll know soon enough.

Re: 2008 Yankee News & Notes Thread
most of the Yankees' moves this year really reek of a lot of management tug-of-war going on

Re: 2008 Yankee News & Notes Thread
I dont think so. Not compared to how it wa pre-'05 when the Tampa faction would always conflict with what the NY faction wanted to do. I think it's pretty much ettled down. I think Hank is letting Ca$h take care of most of the decision-making. Sure, he probably has some input but I think it's on Cashman. The Yankees say 2000/2001-2005 were a nightmare. Tug of war wouldn't begin to describe it.

Re: 2008 Yankee News & Notes Thread
Between the whole Joba drama a few weeks ago and the jerking around of Kennedy, it just seems to me like the Yankees are really struggling to find that balance between rebuilding, which Cashman is advocating, and trying to win now, which the Steinbrenners, namely Hank, are advocating

Re: 2008 Yankee News & Notes Thread
Yeah I see your point. But I think daddy has Hank in check. Despite what Hank said, nobody budged on Joba. And Hank later went on to make nice with hi comments. Also, Kennedy was a Girardi/Ca$h move. But I can certainly see how things seem to be in imbo right now in Yankee-land.

exactly, it seems that everytime Hank's brain doesn't quite keep up with his mouth, his dad sets him straight. I guess it's a learning process for Hank but its still fun to see the occasional manager/GM/owner come along and talk to the media the way he would talk to someone in a bar after having a half-dozen whiskey sours

Daddy has Hank in check?
Doubtful. What is rumored to have hit Big Stein doesn't get better with time. Keeping the tapioca in his mouth and off his chin is probably higher on his list of priorities than anything else right now. This isn't coming from mean spirited thoughts. I've witnessed this first hand with my grandmother. In less than a year she went from being able to hold a conversation, albeit addled with directions to people long past, to needing full-time care and soft food. Thems the facts.

Re: 2008 Yankee News & Notes Thread
I don't think George is incoherent and incapacitated. I'm sure he's able to communicate and whatnot. His condition may make it so that he prefers to be out of the spotlight and just stay at home and away from business. I can't say for sure, as none of us can. Fact is that none of us are there witnessing it, but the very few time throughout the season where George has been mentioned it' to say he's doing well resting down in Tampa. Who knows though. I'm sure it'll progress eventually, but a for his current state we just don't know. But if he is at all coherent and communicable he's following his team, and likely in touch with Hank and co. I guess we'll have a better idea come July and the All Star Break. I would suspect if healthy enough he would certainly make an appearance here in NY. We'll see though. But I know for sure Hank isn't calling the shots all by himself. Either daddy, Hal, or the front office have some grasp on him.

Re: 2008 Yankee News & Notes Thread
http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/20...n_slump_s.html
From the NYDAILYNEWS:
Yankee slugger Jason Giambi wears a gold lamé, tiger-stripe thong under his uniform when he wants to break out of a slump - and he shares it with hitless teammates who want to get back on track.
"I only put it on when I'm desperate to get out of a big slump," he tells Portfolio.com.
Over the years, the 37-year-old All-Star has left the "golden thong" in the lockers of slumping teammates Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Johnny Damon, Robin Ventura and Robinson Cano.
"All of them wore it and got hits," he reports. "The thong works every time."
HAHA WTF?

A-rod expects to return to the Yankee lineup on Tuesday. They desperately need an offensive spark and he could be the one to provide that.
