i dunno
jim kelley and marv levy seem to have a lock on futility along with the box heads from minnesota who loved fran tarkenton and the vikings.
terrel davis and the denver defense saved john elway and the granola eaters in colorado from a similar plight....the pats were 0-2 in superbowls and a 14 pt underdog against the rams before they changed things forever here....the sox??lets just say the sox changed shoes with the yankees that night in 2004 when kevin brown and derek lowe squared off in game 7...ny has lost all the swagger,some of it was lost that sunday night in arizona,most of it was lost that saturday when becks shut out petitte in 03 and what was left was ripped out of their hands by the sox in 04...
they havent been out of the 1st round since
based on what we see this year with the saviors being torched and or injured it doesnt look like 08 is the year they get back to the top...
its a long season and they do have bottom less resources but i just dont see this combo of old and new meshing into what was....

It may not have meshed well to start, but we still have 4.5 months left of the season, and this team has proven to be a second half club over the last 8 seasons.

Consider this....
ARod and Posada have missed significant time this season, our two best hitters from 07
Robby Cano is on the interstate STILL
Giambi is still on the interstate as well, even though the power and OBP are solid
Shelley Duncan, Wilson Betemit, and Morgan Ensberg have seen significant playing time, yet have 2 homers between them and a near .200BA
Phil Hughes pitched like shit to start and is now out 2 months
Kennedy couldnt find the strike zone and is in the minors
Igawa has started a game, bleh
We have lost one of our rookies likely for the yr who finally proved himself in a relief role (Alby)

and we are still 3 games out of first.

For you guys, Buchholz and Lester have been pretty good. Beckett has been solid. DiceK aside from his shortened outings has been lights out. Wake has been a better version of Wake, and OkiPap have put together a solid 45 days or so. Your offense has the most runs scored in the AL and the highest BA and OPS in all of MLB, by far.

and you lead us by three games.

Think about that. I for one think that this yankee team has a ton of untapped potential with more players coming down the pipe. The big question is whether it is realized this yr or next. If we continue to play inconsistent ball, then you will separate yourselves from us. If we get our guys back and get it rolling, you'll be in trouble.

If we get career-average hitting from JD Drew and Big Papi, career-average pitching from Curt Schilling and Bartolo Colon, career-average fielding from Julio Lugo, and middle-inning relief with an ERA below 5.00, along with what we've seen thus far, you'll be in trouble. JM, I find the BP Postseason Projections using ELO to be the best at this point of the season. They show the Red Sox as 59.7% likely to take the AL East this morning, with the Yankees 22.5% likely to win the division. The Rays have a 9.5% chance; the other two teams combine for the remainder. That suggests that the Yankees are very much alive; I'd agree with that.

The Yankees aren't, however, looking like favorites as we post here today.

36% of the time you will be 3 back, 48% of the time you will be 4 back, 16% of the time you will be 5 back after catching up in games played.

Yes, I know this is not written in stone, the games have to be played, pitching matchup matter, blah, blah, blah.

Point is, it is folly to count them as wins, which is what you do when you ignore the win column as well.

Posada is the 2nd best hitter on the team? One career year a trend makes, huh? Funny, that courtesy didn't extend to Lowell in your estimations of the Sox coming into this year.

i think the sox have played the harder schedule so far this campaign and add onto that the auspicious world tour to start the season so a 3 game lead is fine with me.
we lost our mvp for the 1st month in lowell
becks missed a couple starts
the youngsters have had growing pains
ortiz didnt break .200 till last week
and the last time ny saw 1st place gas was under 235 a gallon and hillary clinton was gearing up to face rudolpho guiliani in a run for president...
its been a while since ny concerned us

And with umpires like Gerry Davis and Derryl Cousins, he might thrive upon his return to MLB.

Ian Kennedy can only succeed in MLB if he gets an extra two to four inches on the outside of the plate. Watch and see.
