Re: ...and whoever's playing the Yankees - 2008 Game Thread
i was rooting for them last night
how hard is the al east?
nys ace gets beat in tampa and bostons ace gets beat in baltimore??
thank god toronto cant score
its may 14th and tampa is in 1st place...and still nobody goes to the games
pro baseball has no future in florida despite the markets being big enough and the game being as popular there as anywhere else
added to the fact that there are literally millions of boston and ny people living there now to pump up division games...and still nobody goes...
miami won 2 titles in 6 years and has constantly put out an exciting product yet they cant sell tickets in a place that has 5,000,000 cubans who worship baseball like the english worship soccer...i dont see how MLB can hang on to these franchises...

Re: ...and whoever's playing the Yankees - 2008 Game Thread
Last night drove me CRAZY. Particularly in the late innings with the relievers. Joe should have used Joba for the 8th and 9th rather than just the 8th and using Farnsworth in the 9th. Should have saved Farnsworth for extras and not used Mo for 2 inning in a non-save situation (what bugged me about that was Mo's on my fantasy team and the situation he was put in last night would not have benefited me at all). Also, even if Gomes didn't score in the 11th, and the Yanks scored in the top of the 12th, or 13th, or 14th, or whenever..they would have needed someone to close the game out with Mo having gone 2. That game was winnable, and we handed it right back to them. DAMN!

Joba was shaky though. When was the last time he pitched more than one inning?

Re: ...and whoever's playing the Yankees - 2008 Game Thread
April 22nd in Chicago he went 1.2 and got the win. He went 2 on April 6th vs TB and also got the win. Last year a few times he would go two and be successful. Only problem was that if he went 2 innings in a game he wouldn't be available for 2 games (1 inning, 1 game, etc) so it wasn't done frequently. As a former starter, and showing that he could do it before, there's no reason for him to not be able to pitch 2+ inning and be solid. Yeah, he walked a few last night, but he settled down and got out of it. I guess it's an easy second-guess scenario, but I think the way it affected the rest of the bullpen was detrimental to how the game would eventually play out. Then again, if Joba loses the game in the 9th I'm not saying this. It' so easy to second guess in Baseball that it isn't fair to the managers.
Note: Joba went 2 innings 6 times last year (including the postseason), and went more than an inning 10 times (that's including the 6 games he went 2). The only times he faltered were September 16th giving up a Home Run at Fenway, although he did record 3 K's and got the win; and October 7th in Game 3 vs Cleveland at the Stadium he gave up 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and struck out 2 in relief of Phil Hughes, who got the win in relief of Clemens (I was at that game too).

If these guys don't start hitting, I'm going to start beating my Asian girl. The only thing saving her is Matsui doing well. Woe is her if he starts slumping.
EDIT: I make the statement, and then Cano drives in Matsui for a 1-0 lead. Move over Hank.

Shit. 2-1 Yankees. Gabe Gross just hit a SHOT up the middle but jeter was positioned perfectly and turned it into a double play. Mussina was impressive tonight. WTF?

Ladies and gentlemen, your first place Tampa Bay Rays.
And that says all that needs to be said about standings in May.

Re: ...and whoever's playing the Yankees - 2008 Game Thread
heres a sign tampa has respect
the rays were an 8-5 favorite today meaning if you played tampa you had to put 160up to make 100
the yanks got 140 back on 100
thats respect and deservedly so
even becks was a tiny favorite over jackson 2 sundays ago
when the world champs are using their ace against a team that never won 75 games and they are a 6-5 favorite the dog is getting huge respect
the times are a changing

The season is 1/4 done. We aren't the least bit concerned?
