Default Hughes, Kennedy, might be out of roatation?

Quote:
Yanks to pull Hughes and Kennedy from rotation?
Phil Hughes, who at 21 is the youngest pitcher in the majors, allowed six runs and eight hits in 32/3 innings and fell to 0-4. His ERA rose from 7.85 to 9.00, and it's unclear how long the Yankees will stick with him, or Ian Kennedy, another struggling young pitcher. "The question's been asked (internally)," GM Brian Cashman said when asked if Hughes might lose his rotation spot. "If we decide to do something, we'll talk to the player first. But I think it's fair for us to discuss it."

Whos gonna pitch then?

The Yanks could be jumping into the trade market sooner rather then later. I think Texas's Millwood is a reasonable canidate to be traded to NY. I think Blanton/Harden price will be too steep.

Hughes still has plenty of time to make it. I can't see NY giving him up for Blanton or an off injured Hareden when they wouldn't send him away for Santana. If they do, it will be fun to see how fans react. All those who wanted to keep him will be flipping out to see him go away for a #2 pitcher LOL.

It's official...Ian Kennedy has been sent to AAA and it's most likely Kei Igawa will take his spot. What a mess that rotation is. Other than Wang you don't know what kind of performance you may get. Plus with Posada and A-Rod out of the lineup you can't expect them to outscore opponents on a consistent basis. I suppose if they can stay around .500 by the All-Star break they could get healthy enough to make a run.

I'd remind everybody that Pettitte and Mussina seem not to suck this year.

If one looks at the Yankees' second-half performance from 1996 onward it correlates inversely with their first-half record. That's not a fluke: Steinbrenner and Cashman will spend whatever it takes to keep the Yankees in contention.

Regard this as a horror movie. Until the creature dies three times, it's not yet finished.

Mussina has been very up and down this season. You have no idea what kind of performance he is going to give you.

Yeah...but one can estimate by checking whether or not Boston is the opposing team.

vs. Red Sox: 9.34 ERA
vs. rest of AL: 2.73 ERA

Moose has has 3 splendid outings in a row. He's a man determined, I hope he can keep it up.

As for Kennedy, I guess the plan for now is to let him make a start or 2 in Scranton and then evaluate the situation then. The Yanks are gonna use 4 starters for now. After being informed of his demotion today Kennedy made some comments that might irk some in the Yankee organization. I don't want to misquote him, so I'm gonna go find the exact quotes, but they were things along the lines of cheap cop-outs and complaints about the high magnitude and so much pressure.

Yeah, I saw that too and was not pleased. Don't like pressure Ian? How about the Yankees trade you to Kansas City or Florida so you don't have to deal with any "pressure"? A loser like he is right now would fit in perfectly in either of those places...or Minnesota.

"I guess if I can pitch under a smaller microscope down there, I guess it might put a little less pressure on me," Kennedy acknowledged. "You are on a bigger scale here. In Scranton, I'm struggling, but here, the world is going to end."
Quote:
"I was kind of surprised, because I feel like I've been throwing well," Kennedy said, "but if you don't do well and get drastic changes and drastic improvements, this is what happens.

"They made it sound like they wanted me here, but they'd rather have me improve in Scranton and get my confidence back up. I feel like the last two times, I've been doing better. It's not going to be easier because it's in Scranton. It's still baseball, it's still a game."
He feels like he's been throwing well? Compared to who...the BP pitcher?

Kennedy was told that he could be back with the Yankees after two starts if he gets his game in order, but he could also be in Pennsylvania for 15 starts if he mopes and doesn't show improvement.
So, I guess we'll be seeing him in September....

Compared to himself last September, perhaps?

Kennedy was getting the calls in 2007...too many folks are watching Pitch f/x in 2008 to permit the umpires to support him the way that they did last autumn again.
