In The NL West there, sport.
For the price he was asking he was worth passing on.

Re: Pettitte REJECTS offer!
Past-his-prime Lowe+ AL EAST + Yankees infield defense= 6.00 ERA.

It was an unnecessary jab at his fandom more than anything of substance. I don't think Derek Lowe is that bad, but on the Yankees, I don't think he would fair that well given their incredibly subpar middle infield, and the fact that he's a sinkerball pitcher.

I'm not arguing either side of this, but isn't Wang a sinkerball pitcher and doesn't he do well? And to DipreG's comment, wouldn't the errors not be factored into Lowe's ERA, so if anything the Yankee defense won't affect his ERA.

Tex improves a lot our infield defense. Our infielders don't have to worry much about making a perfect throw to 1B.

It would still affect his performance.

You guys talk as if our D in the IF is ridiculously bad. Cano is actually pretty good. As are ARod and Tex. Jeter is the only weak link in our IF

Re: Pettitte REJECTS offer!
Yeah, anyone who watched Cano a lot last year knows that he's improved tremendously in the field, and I only expect that to continue. Tex=GGer. A-Rod is a solid defensive 3B, and if not for Eric Chavez he should have 2 GGs at the position. I will never understand though how in 2006 (or was it 2005?) A-Rod was so poor in the field after being so good his first few years there. That one still baffles me. He was horrendous that one season in particular.

Beltre is better and also Lowell, but A-Rod is an OK 3B.

Re: Pettitte REJECTS offer!
Where did I say he was the best, or better than Lowell or even Beltre? He did come in second behind Chavez those 2 years in the voting for Gold Glove though.

Re: Pettitte REJECTS offer!
Lowe had an ERA of 5 and a half his last season in the American League East. He suddenly shaved 2 runs off his ERA in the NL West for 4 years. He'll put those pounds back on and then some. He sucks. I'm glad we didn't get him.

You know i'm not talking about first base, but the rest of the infield.
Jeter is awful.
Cano and A-Fraud are "ok."
But again, Lowe's DECLINE + AL East OFFENSES + Yanks IF defense= 6.00 ERA.
And to ital, errors are the single worst way to evaluate team defense, so don't rely on errors for anything, we're talking about range and ability, because if his IF can't get to groundballs they should get to, then no error will be charged, but the ERA will jump.
