Now that he is gone, I wont hold that against him at all. Lots of pitchers these days refuse to claim the plate as their own. Brushing someone back or hitting them is the best way to remind them who owns the plate.

They will change the rule because of Pedro and Manny. Also in this ERA of Free agency what player stays on one team for 10 years, the rules will be changed and both 24 and 45 will be out in RF.

I think Pedro is a no-brainer. His number has to be retired. Ortiz seems to be moving to that category as well. Manny's legacy largely depends on if, when and how he leaves the Sox. As of right now, though, I'd say both Pedro and Ortiz will have their numbers retired, a World Series can change some rules.

they should add in a caveat that the 10 yr rule can be waived in lieu of a WS championship.

Cashman on the Bernie Williams situation:

Said Cashman: "That ship has sailed." He did not sound unhappy to see it go.

"Last year was his farewell tour," Cashman said. "A lot of people in this organization would have let him go after 2005, but I brought him back because of who he was and because we had a need."

"I'm trying to do this as respectfully as I can," he said. "It's a balancing act between your emotional ties to someone you love and what's best for your team. And whenever you're transitioning to younger players, this is what happens."

"We're talking about a role player here, the 25th man on the roster. I know what Bernie Williams meant to this team, but he's not that guy anymore."

Bernie was always one of my favorite Yankees. Class act, and a great player. I think he should have retired on a high note.
