Hughes has some dynamite stuff, but thus far this spring, his command is a bit off. Plus, his changeup isnt where it should be. He needs a few months of seasoning.

Re: Pettitte looking sharp
I just read an article that said Andy Pettitte is trying to convince the Yankees to let him play soft toss. Wang also suffered an apparent hamstring injury which Joe Torre called cramps.

Re: Pettitte looking sharp
you better believe the yankees will play it safe with both of them. Knowing the yankees history, april doesnt mean all that much anyway. They typically suck in april.

Still unanswered: if Pettitte will be ready for the first turn of the rotation; whether Karstens will be healthy enough to fill in for Wang; and who will start Opening Day -- or any day thereafter, for that matter
It was Pettitte's first work off a mound since March 17 because of back spasms, and he is scheduled for another side session tomorrow. If that goes well, Pettitte could pitch in a minor-league game Friday or Saturday.
But Torre, for the first time this spring, also raised the possibility of skipping Pettitte the first time through the rotation in the regular season.

How did that start over the weekend go?

Re: Pettitte looking sharp
I should have said bullpen. Torre was interviewed yesterday and it sounded like he may pass Pettitte on the first turn of the season. Better early than late in baseball.
