Pettitte looking sharp
Has anyone seen Pettitte these days? His fastball is a notch slower than it was when he was here before (sitting right around 90-91 now when he was a 92-94 guy when he left), but his curveball is much better and his changeup has emerged. To go along with his already solid cutter, he has 4 damn good pitches. He doesnt have the heat he used to, but he is a better pitcher right now and it should be nice to have Andy in this rotation. He is damn near untouchable right now.

his elbow is fine. He led the league in starts over the past 2 yrs. He'll hold up.

Jesus Christ. If a Red Sox fan made this type of thread about a Sox player you'd say "Calm down it's only Spring Training"

Re: Pettitte looking sharp
Pavano looked like crap. He and Igawa are a little scary at the back end of the Yankee rotation.

Like I've said before, their offense is going yo have to bail them out of a ton of games every 4th and 5th day.

Pavano allowed no earned runs, yet he allowed 3 UER. I remember that about Pavano. He did alright if you had solid D, but he fucking crumbles when an error was made. Fantastic quality to have in a starter. Man I hate that guy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Karstens took one of those spots.

Torre already said Pavano and Igawa will have the spots out of camp. Doesnt mean a ton though, as the yankees 5th starter will only get 2 starts for the first 4 weeks of the season. Pavano will be the 4th starter out of the chute because he needs regular starts. Igawa may be a long reliever/spot starter out of the gate and then Pavano's performance could cause Karstens/Hughes/Ohlendorf to nab the 4 and push Igawa into the 5.

Re: Pettitte looking sharp
AAA for Hughes, mid-season call-up is what I've heard.
The kid looks good, but hopefully he will get a case of Pavano-itis and his gynecologist will keep him out down the stretch.
