Matsui strains hammy
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/...=.jsp&c_id=nyy
sounds like it isnt too much to worry about, but Torre will be cautious and says that he will sit a minimum of 3-5 games. With Damon returning to the lineup today, Melky will shift to LF to replace Matsui.
It needs to get warmer and it needs to do it fast.

Re: Matsui strains hammy
I guess this isn't too terrible, as long as it's just the Minnesota series. Hopefully Melky can right himself once the Yankees get out on the road. Any news on Damon, or is Cairo starting in left today?
EDIT: No Damon today. Melky is center today and Cairo is in left.

Wow! Melky is going to have to cover a lot of ground today.

Yeah. I mean, they don't really have any other options. Matsui is out 3-5 days, so I would say that he is unavailable. As for Damon, he pinch hit yesterday and played the outfield for an inning (and caught a Tejada fly ball), so he is probably available. That's why I was wondering if he might be in center today. Instead they'll go with Cairo in left. He played the second half of the game there yesterday, but only played once there last year (against the Mets I believe).

With them 2 out, Rasner pitching, and Bedard on the other side, the Orioles have a good shot at winning. Unfortunately, Cairo will go 5 for 6, Melky will hit 2 homers and steal 3 bases, and Rasner will throw a 3 hitter. Thats just what happens.

Re: Matsui strains hammy
Just a tad, but I also feel that every time the Yankees are not favored to win a game, they do. Frustrating.

^If you reverse that, maybe thats why they lost the 03 series, the 04 alcs, and Every other "new york heartbreak" since 2001

Re: Matsui strains hammy
The Yankees are placing Hideki Matsui on the disabled list. His status has not changed, and it was previously reported that he would be back by next weekend, but the Yankees have decided not to take any chances. It's likely that they'll call up Kevin Thompson from AAA. Although they're playing on turf, it looks like Damon will be in the lineup tomorrow night.

So he'll be out for the Red Sox series?

He'll certainly miss the first series. As for the second series, we'll see. Matsui doesn't anticipate missing anymore time after the DL stint is scheduled to end, but who knows. Robbie Cano missed over a month last year for the same type of injury.

Thank God. Not that I wish injury on him, but he kills the Sox.

Whats up with the Yankees and hamstring injuries this year? Wang, Matsui, and also Damon who was/is maybe still dealing with a sore hamstring

He's a Yankee, so I wouldn't care if they carted him off on a stretcher.
