God damn, somebody check out that training/medical staff for the Yankees: Mussina is yet another Yankee player this season who has dealt with a sore hamstrong

they are actually. They redid the entire strength and conditioning department and now everyone has strained hammies.

The Yankees originally claimed that Matsui was not going to be DL'd, so I'm not yet convinced that he is not going to eventually wind up on the DL or that this is not serious. We'll see. So far it looks like they lucked out on this one but anything can happen. Rasner, back in the cold weather (for whatever that's worth), against a strong Cleveland offense is probably going to be a recipe for disaster on Tuesday. However, I'll worry about this weekend before looking ahead to the Cleveland series.

Sean Henn will take Mike Mussina's slot in the rotation likely meaning that the yankees will not adjust their rotation for the off days. Please, Joe, go away.

Any idea what the Yankees will do with the rotation (who will start each game) on a day to day basis?

not sure. To this point, all I know is Igawa, Pavano, and Pettitte in Oakland.

OK. Here's what I don't get. If Mussina is only going to miss one start, why do they need to insert someone else in the rotation? I didn't think that they were going to need a fifth starter for a couple of turns through the rotation. So, why wouldn't they just insert Moose back in the rotation, after this turn through, and then, by the time they need a fifth starter, Karstens should be ready. Maybe I'm not seeing this right, but the way I'm looking at it, Rasner will only have to make one more start and Henn will not have to make a start (obviously this is assuming Mussina and Karstens both comeback when they're scheduled to).

Ugh, well that would explain it. This season is certainly off to quite a strange beginning. It would be a big boost if Igawa could rebound from last Saturday and produce a solid effort tomorrow. I would feel a lot better in the short term if he did that.

Default Mussina to avoid DL.

Mussina will not be DL'd. He received treatment in Oakland today and is feeling very sound. He will likely only miss one start.

Keep his spot on the Dl warm. He'll be there before too long.

when interviewed he said that he never pulled it. Just felt it tighten a little. He threw 2 more pitches, didnt feel anything, but when he left the mound to cover the bunt, he felt it tighten a little. He decided to come out before he pulled it. For once, a guy decided not to be macho and cost us some time. I am happy with what he did.
