Re: 4/26 TOR @ NYY The kid debuts
What's the odds of a K here?
Edit: Posted in the wrong thread. Ooops. Was referring to Wily Schmo. We would have been better off with the k

My fault, should have worded it differently. That's what I was trying to say, because I think the reason that Joe wouldn't want to bat someone like Robinson Cano second is because of that.

Wow, Burnett is so talented. Great pitch right there, and it's impressive to see him want to come back inside after Posada ripped the last one just foul.

No, if Mienkewitz is batting second, the guys behind him aren't going to get a lot of chances.

Ok, yeah, I think I said that. Joe is probably doing this as more for Minky than anything else. It might give him some confidence, and as I said before, if Damon gets on base he should see a heavy dose of fastballs. Granted it'll be 97, but I can't see him hitting anything else.
EDIT: But because of what you said I don't necessarily agree with the decision. However, I'm just guessing as to what Torre might be thinking. Hughes is also beginning to look a lot better. He's retired seven in a row and three of those have been on K's.

Re: 4/26 TOR @ NYY The kid debuts
Got very lucky right there. Wells usually puts those in the left field seat.
EDIT: Can't fall behind people like Wells. If Hughes isn't careful right here it'll be 4-0 in a heartbeat. Keep it under the hands Phil.

Nothing you can do there. Corner fastball lined up the middle.

Re: 4/26 TOR @ NYY The kid debuts
Yeah, but he's also left a few tasty morsels middle-middle, like that pitch Wells is pissed he just missed. I've seen the glove move a lot. His command has been overhyped. He's got good stuff, but he needs some polish, which is why he should still be in AAA.

I could not agree more. That and the fact that's he not really stretched out.

Good results, but as ORS mentioned he could have easily given up two homers that inning to Rios and Wells. He doesn't appear to have great command of his fastball against right handed hitters. He seems much more comfortable throwing it to lefty.

even the best make one mistake per ab on average. The big thing about Hughes thus far is that he isnt making a second mistake in the zone.

Re: 4/26 TOR @ NYY The kid debuts
Burnett looks like he really has it tonight. They're going to have to wait him out like they did against Harden and score some late runs. Hughes and the bullpen are also going to have to be able to keep them in the game.

Good point. I'm just saying that even though he got through the top of the order in the third, he wasn't doing it in spectacular fashion, not that I expect that in his first big league start.
