Anyone who compared Jon Lester to Clemens is an idiot.

So it takes one start to determine he is overrated, but it takes one more to decide he is legit?
Not very consistent if you ask me.

He's right. Papelbon was the future Clemens, Lester was just a great prospect.
Hughes isn't considered one of the top pitching prospects in baseball for no good reason. He was on yesterday until he got hurt.
The sample size in effect until he does it over a prolonged period (more than one season) and before you call me out I've said that about Red Sox and other players too.
The minors are filled with top pitching prospects who never panned out. Even Lester started off 5 or 6 or 7 and 0 before coming back to earth a bit.

Hughes is for Real
Jeez, I thought this thread was about him being "a real Yankee", ya know considering he's injured and all.
What happened to him anyway...a case of Pavanoitis?

Re: Hughes is for real
Good start it sounds like. We'll just have to wait and see before hes pinned as the ace of the Yankees for the next 10 years after one start. (not that im comparing their talent level) but Devern Hansack also threw a no-hitter in his 2nd MLB start

That's it he wasn't tested, he had one great outing and look what he got for it, injured... you're getting way ahead of yourself here... he may be great in the future but right now, well, he's injured!

Re: Hughes is for real
Maybe as early as next week, but probably in the middle of May sometime.

whoah who was saying Jon Lester was a future Roger Clemens?
Anyways the Lester that was up in the bigs isnt the same one that was dealing up the ladder of the Sox system, if anything his sickness (minor car accident hurting his back) mustve had some effect. Id say his ceiling is Cliff Lee, soxprospects.com has the mlb comparison of Andy Pettitte
EDIT: I thought so...

Yankees fired director of performance enhancement Marty Miller.
The Phil Hughes injury was the last straw. Miller, hired over the winter as sort of a strength coach, was unpopular with some players and had several opt out of his program. The Yankees lost Mike Mussina, Chien-Ming Wang and Hideki Matsui to hamstring injuries before Hughes went down last night.

Re: Hughes is for real
Good. Hopefully the damage can be contained and we see an end to these injuries soon.
