And, SCM, shame on you. Your math is awful. Edwar is 26. Foulke retired at 33. How many yrs does he have left?

SHHHHHHH....its funnier this way!
Foulke was Fastball 90-92, Changeup 82-84 and Slurve,Curve,Slider,Shithouse in the low 80s as well. When Foulkie was on....he had that 10MPH difference between his top two guns....when he lost that, he lost his job, and career.

I am pretty sure Foulke was a low 90's FB pitcher early in his career as well. I remember Foulke hitting 90-91 in the 2004 W.S. as well.

Foulke was decent for portions of last season. The numbers were really decieving, he had like 2 outting in which he gave up like 8 ERs, other than that when he was on the mound healthy (which wasn't that often) he was fairly solid. I think he had a 3.70 ERA in april and like an ERA in the mid 2's in September.
Haha, I have no clue why I am going at great lengths to defend this guy. For obvious reasons I just have so much respect for what this guy did.

I thought he was comparing him to the Foulke of today, I see. Yeah, very similar to Foulke in stuff. Apparently he is all arms and legs and the ball is released rather deceptively. I'd love to see him up, but I may have to wait till next yr. With Gascan pitching better and Bruney rediscovering his velocity, I dont think sweeping change is on the way.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
Isn't that K/IP ratio unheard of for a guy who throws in the low 90's?

pretty much. He apparently has an absolutely sick changeup and an all arms and legs delivery.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
2IP 1H 1BB 5K 0ER today, bringing his ERA down to 0.76. Um, yankees. We can kinda use some pen help here. He now has 31K's in 17.1 AAA IP.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
Sounds like a Jermaine Van Buren redux. Let's see how much faith he has in that stuff against the best before we place him in the conversation with one of the better closers of the last decade.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
Maybe. But Van Buren never had anything like this. Jermaine's best K/9 in the sox system was 9.7 and his best in the Cubs system was 10.8. But JVB had one yr in AA with the cubbies system where he allowed 3.8 hits per 9 for a season. We'll see. Edwar doesnt do it the way JVB did (pure power mostly) but he is striking out 16.5 per 9 right now with a BAA of .137. I havent seen anything like this before. And I dont think I would ever advocate him as the next big closer, I just want an effective pen arm out there for our rebuild.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
JVB did not do it with power. His asset was/is a deceptive delivery and good differential from a mediocre FB to a very good change. Sounds very similar to Edwar.
