Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
Has anyone seen what the guy Edwar Ramirez has done?
Edwar is a freakishly skinny (6'3" 150lbs) pitcher who was signed by the Angels in 2001. After 2 yrs of poor performances, he was released. He kicked around the Indy league circuit before signing with the yankees at the beginning of last season. Last season, as a reliever in Tampa (High A) he put up a ridiculous line
4-1 1.17ERA 30.2IP 14H 47K 6BB 0.65WHIP
So this yr, he was moved to Trenton. And boy was he good.
9G 3-0 0.54ERA 16.2IP 6H 1ER 33K 8BB
That earned him a promotion to AAA. Thus far, in AAA, here is his line...
10G 0-0 4 Saves 1.02ERA 17.2IP 9H 2ER 29K 6BB
So, to recap. His composite numbers since he signed with the yankees are...
7-1 65IP 7ER 29H 119K 20BB 0.96ERA .125BAA 0.75WHIP 16.5K/9IP
His SR isnt all that intriguing. He throws a low 90s fastball, an average curve, but has one of the best changeups in the system. Chances are, he is gonna have to be called up at some point. And at 26 yrs old, he isnt too old for the system right now. It is intriguing. Is he more of a fluke or will he have success in the bigs. Hopefully we find out soon enough.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
With relievers I'm not really cought up in the age. Scott Proctor made his ML debut at the age of 27 and hes been solid for us. The numbers suggest hes not a fluke.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
Reminds me of kinda what we saw with Hansack.....in the end though, everything evens out.....the law of averages.

He didnt even come close to those numbers.
Hansack in his 2 yrs in the sox system
8-7 3.26ERA 132IP 122H 124K 36BB
2-6 3.49ERA 59.1IP 57H 58K 15BB

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
That K/BB ratio is absolutely ridiculous.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
The Ks per IP are even more ridiculous.
And he only throws in the low-90's?

apparently. His bread and butter is his changeup. Sounds like a Keith Foulke type of player with a little more velocity.

Re: Edwar Ramirez, fluke or truth?
in his last 3 outings, he has this line...
3.2IP 2H 1BB 9K
9 of the 11 possible outs have been K's. Almost all of his K's are swinging btw, which is interesting and leads me to believe that he has stellar stuff, BUT will have a little trouble adjusting initially because of the more patient MLB hitters. But that kind of dominance in AAA is amazing.

he and Britton are next in line for a callup, WHEN needed. The Yankees always take too long with garbage veterans. It took them too long to DFA Karsay, Quantrill and Stanton on the last go round. I hope they DFA gas can soon so these kids can show what they can do.
BTW, props to ORS for giving Vizcaino the nickname Gas can, I use it a lot.

Edwar has a slightly better fastball than Foulke, so we'll see. If I remember correctly, Foulke was exclusively a FB/Change guy. Remember, Edwar has a breaking ball too. His numbers are too good to ignore.
And, SCM, shame on you. Your math is awful. Edwar is 26. Foulke retired at 33. How many yrs does he have left?
