Re: Thanks for the memories, dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
There are a couple of things here that I think are right on.
One, Joe is not a savy manager for the season. Kilo mentioned how he had to manage to win every game this season because of the bad start, but I feel the bad start didn't have a whole lot to do with that. He's always rode "his" guys too hard in the regular season, and managed to win every game. Ironically, this is actually the make-up you want from your postseason manager. Their recent failure in the postseason is not due to the manager.
The reason is point number two. They've been bounced early lately because they had weaker pitching in every series (except the '02 series to LAA, who were just hitting the piss out of everything in October).
The interesting thing to note about this is the trend with his bullpen overuse. It wasn't an issue when they won 4 in 5 years because he had great starting pitching. He didn't get chance to wear "his" guys out. The starters when deep into games, limiting the exposure of the bullpen. As the rotation became more and more deficient, his bullpen usage became more and more problematic because the guys he trusted logged more and more innings.
So, like Crunch said, Torre will be the fall guy for Cashman's ineptitude. It's not surprising. Look a picture of Cash. He reeks of mealy mouthed, spineless, CYA jerkoff.

then how exactly is a manager judged? If the blame is always on the players, why are managers even fired? There are times where you just need a fresh face. The air stagnates, the fire goes out and you just need a fresh start. Now I could continue on for days about the failures of Torre, but he does have a strong enough resume to counteract anything I say. So, I'll leave it with this. The yankee guard is changing. The old are leaving/retiring, the young are growing up. Torre is a manager of egos, of consistency, of (as I said before) autopilot. Having to nurture kids through the 162 is something I dont think he is equipped for and I'd rather see these kids grow up in the right environment than suck them into the Torre feeder and ruin their careers.

Re: Thanks for the memories, dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
youre right mj
you know ive been calling him a shit bag manager for years too
hes had all the weapons and failed and this years team just wasnt made for the post season
3-2 2-1 and 5-4 games are the october rule rather than the 12-10 games he was winning during the season
hes just not that good and if the reason for keeping him is cause the players love him well then the players cornholed their beloved joe out of 3 straight series that were more than winnable...
you cant fire the team said harry sinden
when he fired beloved tommy johnson the year after the bruins lost 1-0 in game 7 against philly...ive hated harry since and he rarely let me forgive him in these last 33 years

Cashman got a lot of quick fixes on short term deals so he could bridge the gap between now and the future. The 3 guys who will be occupying the last spots in our rotation are Cashman's crew. If they fail and the reloading fails, he will be axed. But right now, he has done all he could with the remnants he was handed.

Re: Thanks for the memories, dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
Cashman has been good in that he's held on to the young pitcher we've cultivated, and added others via trades. Even if the dividends haven't been immediate, he's set us up pretty good for the next decade.
