Re: Thanks for the memories, dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
Posada had a season for the ages. .330 20HR 80+ RBI. I agree, he was completely irreplaceable this season. He was awesome. But even the biggest homer in me wont consider that he'll continue that pace. Prior to this season, Posada was a .260-.280 type hitter who would hit anywhere from 18-25 HR. I think he reverts to that OR WORSE next season since he is a catcher with TONS of mileage and approaching 37. ANd with the season he had, he could easily get a 4-5 yr deal worth 15mil a season. I dont think that is worth it, especially for a catcher who continually catches 135-145 games a season. It just isnt.
As far as Mo is concerned. I love the guy. Love him. He is the biggest reason for our success, and that is without a doubt. But he has shown chinks in the armor for the past few yrs, but he has staved them off. One of these days, that armor will crack and he will become mortal. And at 38, it will come soon. If we could nab both of these guys in 1 yr deal, absolutely, sign them up. But we'd be commiting 7 figure yearly salaries for guys into their 40s. This was kinda the root of the whole problem that started this run of futility anyway. You can always "pay for it later". Well later is now and I'd rather take a back seat for a yr or two than have these weigh us down when the team is young.

Re: Thanks for the memories, dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
Rivera's numbers this year are right along with where they have been since 2003. He gave up a few more runs, but his hits, walks, homers, strikeouts.. all along the same line. I really think he's still got gas in the tank, and it'd be a huge mistake to watch him pitch for the Cubs to end his career.
Edit- link to his numbers

You are laughing, but that pig is considering whether he wants to pitch again next year. He's running out of suckers.

Re: Thanks for the memories, dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
I'm laughing because it goes back to a conversation I was having with a friend yesterday. He was saying how he would love to see Joba in the closers role if/when Mo leaves. I agreed that it would be great, but stated that I would prefer to see him go into camp as a starter like he is supposed to. When he asked me who would close then I half jokingly suggested that the Yankees sign Roger up for the job. The more I thought about it though, it didnt seem like a horrible idea. Let him go out there and give it his all for 1 inning a game. But this is only if he decides he wants ot pitch. I still stand by the notion that Rog' should finally hang 'em up and call it a career. If he doesnt, rather than letting him go back to Houston or somewhere else i'd prefer to see him in pinstripes. But based on this year, his ineffectiveness in the rotation, and his injuries it would be a disaster to bring him back to start, if he were to come back at all.
idk...just one of those crazy ideas I flung out there. I dont look at it as remotely realistic or anything, just having some fun.
I still think he should retire though.
