As for Joe, while alot of people see the offer as disrespectful and unfair I dont think it was that bad at all. While being asked to take a paycut, he has the opportunity to get a pay raise. And if he made it to the series he gets his second year, and wish to manage the Yankees in the new stadium. But we really have to reserve judgement for now, at least until we hear Joe's side of it. At this point the story reflects well on the Yankees, but there has to be another aspect to the story.

Please. Anyone who's seen the drivel from when you posted regularly knows that this is the only possible answer you would opine. You're on record stating that the Sox always run their heroes out of town while the Yankees "honor" them until the end. Wake up and smell what you are shoveling. There are ugly goodbyes for every franchise, and the way Torre was treated was ugly. Don't worry, I don't expect you to see it for what it is. The realization that your self-imposed air of superiority is a farce might make your head pop.

He should reject it he gets trashed around every single year. The big boss basically puts any loss that the Yankees take on Toree saying he's going to fire him for not winning in the playoffs year after year. Did George ever think that maybe it's his team and not his manager that needs some shaping up.

I have lost a shitload of respect for Torre.

Lets look at it from a different angle.

You have been given the highest payroll in the game for four years running, and have been eliminated in the first round three times, and presided over the biggest choke in post-season history in the other. You have burned out your pen nearly every season. In return for this, you were the highest paid manager in all of baseball by DOUBLE the salary of the number two guy in baseball.

Now...to come back after another failed season, in which your team overcame a terrible spot to get into the playoffs, you failed to pull your team off the field when a plague of bugs attacked your pitcher, who was obviously struggling. You used your wunderkid reliever in a game in which you had a five run lead, rendering him ordinary if needed in an elimination game. You have repeatedly shown how you have no idea how to manage a pen that doesn't have three awesome relievers.

In response to this, we will offer you a salary that keeps you as the HIGHEST MANAGER IN BASEBALL. We will guarantee your salary if you win the pennant next year. In other words, we will give you the chance to EARN your pay. It's called an INCENTIVE.

You refuse it?

You refuse a deal that makes you the highest paid manager in baseball by nearly 50%? After a season in which you didn't meet the expectations of your owner, fans, and city? The only thing Torre has done is show me that he is as bad at managing contracts as he is a bullpen. Good riddance. Seriously.

In Torre's tenure, he won four championships in twelve years. Considering the talent he was given, I find it very difficult to believe that any manager in the game couldn't have done the same.

Mo was quoted as saying the yankees are "just one of 30 teams" after the news broke yesterday. If he wants to bolt, then thanks for the memories and the draft picks. We dont need to go long term on Mo anyway. He's 38 and a reliever, bad combo. Same with Posada. I love those two guys, but I think we could set ourselves up for the future with their departures.

I have to admit I'm kinda getting very annoyed with some of the comments Rivera has made since the end of the season. Why is he so hung up on not getting a deal done in spring training? This is the same team that has made him how much money? This team has given him millions and millions of dollars and he feels "disrespected" because the Yankees didnt get a deal done in Spring Training? He sounds like a little baby. I wish I was that disrespected.

hey, we can take the small drop in production going from Rivera to F. Cordero while moving up in the draft order and getting a supplemental in the process. SWEET. I hope some team gives Mo all he wants and more. The guy was out of this world and I love the guy, but if he wants out then so be it.
