Torre rejects Yankee deal
Watched the conference call on ESPNews. Surprised he turned down the deal.
1 year, + 1 year option. $5 million base, $1 million bonus for reaching ALDS, ALCS, and World Series. Option vesting if they reached the World Series, worth $8 million.

Re: Torre rejects Yankee deal
It's pretty obvious the yanks didn't want him back and offered him this lousy deal so that they could say he walked away we didn't let him go........i don't think it will fly in NY though

Good for him. He didn't deserve to get dicked around like he did.

That I'd like.
I bet Kay has his eyes on Dan Patrick's national radio spot.
I hope the Yanks hire Girardi or Mattingly. Would LOVE to see how the vets respond to that.

Maybe they will enjoy being managed appropriately. Jury is out on Donnie, but I like the prospects of Girardi.

Good for Torre, time for him to settle down and eventually be selected for the Hall of Fame
Is Kay the guy who goes "see ya" when a homerun is hit? If so, Im loving this move as well

That would be great for the fans in NY. I always wished he would get a national gig with ESPN, Fox, ect... (other than the obscure 3am division 3 college football game)

Re: Torre rejects Yankee deal
Well, here are my parting shots for Mr. Torre.
GTFO!!! Just kidding.
Many people on here know that I have been advocating Torre's removal since late 2004. So this is a LOOOOOONG time coming. And at the same time, people on here continue to say that there is no evidence for wanting him gone. Well, depends on where you look.
#1- Look at the Yankee collapse vs the Red Sox in 2004. We had a 10.5 game lead in June and he was STILL burning out Quantrill and Gordon. So much so that they both faltered down the stretch and were integral in the collapse. That is still burned in my head. Watching Quantrill's 80mph fastball glide down the middle for the homer just makes me puke in my mouth a tiny bit. That yr we have a pen that wasnt all that great, but had 2 solid veteran MRs who were desperately overworked and didnt have to be. And this was not just one season, this was a trend that he continued over and over and over again.
#2- Say what you want, but having the highest payroll and the best man for man team in the league 7 yrs running without winning a WS is enough for me anyway.
Those are 2 things, the list continues on, but the most important one in my mind is the team he would have been getting next season. Consider this...
Our rotation may have 3 rookies in it next yr. Our pen could have anywhere from 2-4 rookies in it next yr in my estimation. That being said, does anyone remember what Torre did to Edwar? Brought him up, had him throw 2 of the first 3 games he was in the majors for, then sat him for 13 days. 13. Then he brings him in with the game on the line against the DRays and he gets booed off the hill. The kid goes to his locker and cries after the game. Seriously, props to Edwar for having the stones to make it back, but this is status quo for torre. he picks his 2 or 3 guys to go to, burns them out, then uses the guys who are rusty. They go out, pitch like shit and he doesnt use them again. This is what Torre does. And with the kind of arms that we will be seeing in the majors next season, we dont have that luxury.
A. If Torre likes what he sees, he'll be taking those 23 and 24 yr old arms and use them until they break. Not especially useful when, if handled properly, they could be relievers in pinstripes for a long time.
B. And the most important IMO is Torre's handling of the staff. Torre trusts no rookie and I can understand that philosophy. But he is paranoid of the guys. He has no issue with pulling a guy in the 5th when they are in the slightest bit of trouble. Eventually, the guys have to work out of it. And THEN, when they prove themselves, he will hang them out to dry. We dont need that. We are going to have young pitchers on both ends who need to be handled carefully, and that is just not who Joe Torre is. Hence, although I could name many times where Torre has killed us, both in season and in the post season, I think the biggest reason he needs to go is the personell of the team. It doesnt suit him and alot of drafting and prepping can be ruined by a guy like him. Enjoy retirement Joe.

I used to love him and Monty calling games on WSBK-38.

More like YIKES!!!!!! Fuck Sean McDonough. Anybody have any other info on this?
As for Joe, while alot of people see the offer as disrespectful and unfair I dont think it was that bad at all. While being asked to take a paycut, he has the opportunity to get a pay raise. And if he made it to the series he gets his second year, and wish to manage the Yankees in the new stadium. But we really have to reserve judgement for now, at least until we hear Joe's side of it. At this point the story reflects well on the Yankees, but there has to be another aspect to the story.

dont forget his shitty moves in these playoffs , having wang start game 1 and 4 , jeter batting 176 with 1RBI, posada hitting 133 with 0RBI, matsui 182 with 0RBI, cabrera 188
that fucking joe torre, if someone else would have been coaching CMW would have had 2 CC shutouts and jeter, posada, matsui and cabrera would have hit over 300 with 5 RBI's each and the yanks would have swept the indians
