Re: Pettite Update
Why did I suddenly have a premonition of a late May 2008 press conference with both Pettitte and Clemens announcing their decisions to play for the Houston Astros for the remainder of the season?

Re: Pettite Update
IF Pettitte doesn't come back, the Yanks are left with an opening day rotation of:
Wang
Mussina
Hughes
Kennedy
Joba
3 rooks and Mussina?

Re: Pettite Update
I've got to applaud Pettitte for this decision. It's a pretty big concession for a the team to award high $$ figure player options, and the Yankees did that for him. He could certainly go out and make more, but he's got enough conscience to recognize the team that gave him that deserves some consideration in return.

Still better than Igawa and Carla from last year's opening day. What was Cashman thinking?

Re: Pettite Update
Pettitte's '08 with Yankees or no one
But Pettitte confirmed that he does not intend to turn down the option to pitch for another team.

Re: Pettite Update
Posada was quoted yesterday as saying Pettitte is leaning towards retiring. This is the second person close to Pettitte to state this possibility publicly. Although Pettitte was nearly adamant at this time last season, he may be serious this time. If this is the case, then we have a problem.

Re: Pettite Update
More reason to get Santana for the Yankees.

Re: Pettite Update
If I'm the Twins, I absolutely wait until he makes his decision. It will be a big determinant in their leverage in trade negotiations.

Re: Pettite Update
Clemens leaned towards retirement for a decade. I don't think Andy retires here. He's too good and healthy to quit at this point, especially considering that they're going to contend again with the roster they have.
