Won't happen though. Talks died quickly and I doubt they would be revived.

You wouldn't trade Melky Cabrera for Jake Peavy?
I don't even think I need to argue this. It pretty much argues itself.

For our top pitching prospect and center fielder, I think that would be overvalued. You wanna say maybe Kennedy and Melky, or an arrangement of other prospects then maybe we can talk. But Hughes has the potential to be better than Peavy..

Straight up I would obviously make that deal..but it would take more than that. What I was getting at though is that I would prefer to keep Melky out of a deal.

you could probably find a fielding journal that wouldnt like any player. The point is, Melky had a top 6 ZR, a top 3 RF and led all CFers in assists.
What I find funny is that you guys think you will get a better player for Crisp than you would for Melky. Yet Melky has similar ZR and RF and a better arm and is younger. Do you like your hypocrisy warm or cold?
I am not under the assumption that Melky is about to be a .330/30HR kind of guy, but I know what its like to have a poor CFer. Remember Bernie? No arm, no leg, no chance on anything hit to his right left or over his head. And I do think that Melky can put a whole season together and be a .300 hitter. Hell he was a .300 hitter coming into September even though he started the yr in a brutal fashion.
In terms of Peavy, I worry about a guy like that. He has logged a lot of innings on a small frame in the NL. He has had his share of big game failures and minor tweaks, strains and breaks. I dont think he will last all that long, and I think Hughes will. Melky for Peavy, sign me up, but no one would do that. Hughes in the mix, I dont think so.

Re: Yankees Catch-All Postseason Thread
UZR, the Fielding Bible, and PMR's methodology is the best there is at measuring defensive contribution. By UZR Crisp is +30, by the Fielding Bible he's +44, and I can't find 2007 PMR's. No hypocrisy needed, with similar levels of offensive performance Crisp is more valuable. The RC/G was 4.4 Crisp, 4.3 Melky Mantle. Face it, Melky's defensive capability is best suited for RF, and he'd be a good one, IMO. The only problem is his bat projects at 2B. So, do you like your big cup of STFU warm or cold?

Crisp is more valuable than Melky?
BTW, what's UZR? Apearantly all you Red-Legs do around here is look at statistical analysis to evaluate your players, something I was never too keen on. I'm gonna have to start getting into that I suppose to counter half of your bullshit arguements.

Melky makes Robbie Cano smile, so that counts for at least 10 wins, so STFU, ORS.

Re: Yankees Catch-All Postseason Thread
Carl Pavano is going to be released to free up room on the 40 man roster. I have a feeling he's not going to be missed.
Also, Posada was interviewed at halftime during tonight's Knicks game, and he said one thing of substance in my opinion...that he wants to sign with a team within the first week of free agency. He also said that it's basically between the Yankees and the Mets.

Re: Yankees Catch-All Postseason Thread
Peter Abraham's blog has some quotes from the interview:
Quote:
Update on his situation: “We’re working on it. We’re working with the Yankees. We’re going to hear from the Mets tomorrow. I have no idea. … I would like to stay with the Yankees. My heart is with the Yankees, so hopefully we can get something done.
Does he want to stay with Yankees? “That would be the first choice, yes.”
When do you want to get this done: “I don’t know yet.”
Are you going to listen to other teams: “Yes.”
Are you in the driver’s seat? “Yeah. Yeah. We’re really close. It’s not about the money. For me, it’s the best situation.”
On Joe Girardi: “I love Joe. You know, Joe’s like a big brother to me. He’s been a big brother to me since like ‘96, so hopefully I’m hopefully looking forward to working with him.”
Are chances better than 50-50 you’ll be a Yankee? “Yes. Right now it’s up in the air, but the chances are good.”

Re: Yankees Catch-All Postseason Thread
Both Posada and Rivera will be coming back. They were never the issue.

Re: Yankees Catch-All Postseason Thread
Mo update. Don't forget your luxary tax calculator Cashman.
I am beginning to wonder what will be the average age of a Yankee player in 3 years time. I thought Cashman is making the team younger.
Quote:
According to the New York Times, the Yankees have increased their offer to Mariano Rivera to $45 million over three seasons.
Billy Wagner's $10.75 million average is the currently the highest among closers, so it's a huge offer for the 35-year-old Rivera. If his previous statements about the Yankees being his first choice are accurate, then he figures to follow Jorge Posada by re-signing relatively quickly.
