Sometime this week I def have to go see Cloverfield. It has the best January opening ever, eclipsing the $36 million reissue of Star Wars back in 1997. Although if ticket prices were as high as they are today, it would be $53 million!

Quote:
This wknd's top 10
1) Cloverfield-
$40.1 million
2) 27 Dresses- $23 million
3) The Bucket List- $14.1 million------$41.6 million
4) Juno- $10 million------$85.1 million
5) First Sunday- $7.8 million------$28.5 million
6) Mad Money- $7.7 million
7) National Treasure: Book of Secrets- $7.6 million------$197.4 million
8) Alvin and the Chipmunks- $6.9 million------$196.3 million
9) I am Legend- $4.9 million------$247.5 million
10) Atonement- $4.6 million------$31.7 million

Havent seen Cloverfield but I havent heard some good reviews from my friends, plus hearing about people getting sick from the camera motion. Yikes the 2nd wknd drop tells it all, close to 70% slash in ticket sales!

I've heard more good things than bad things.

I think the dropoff can be attributed to more people going to see it on opening weekend, thereby having a significant drop after the second weekend. I mean, it made ~$40M in the first weekend...it can't seriously stay that popular, right?

No I didnt expect it to be that popular after a $40 million debut. But majority of films that open north of $40 million from majority seeing it the first wknd, will see only drops of 50-60%. Now with 2nd wknd drops of 70% and 62%, and fact that its January when not much big movies happen at this time... it does more or less point to good word of mouth is waning

Super Bowl wknd has been more of a wknd for the ladies and it continued that trend this year, and then some. Hannah Montana (biggest pre-teen star, and newest countdown to 18 ) took by the theaters by storm, despite opening in under 700 theaters. The average movie opens north of 2500 theaters. Disney maintained it would just be a 1 week engagement... not surprising, the new ads are saying that it will have an extended run.

Strange Wilderness, not shocked at all. I had to change the channel every time when I see that scene of the shark, Steve Zahn doing that assine laugh over and over again. It opened outside of the top 10 with just $3 million

Quote:
This wknd's top 10
1) Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Tour-
$31.1 million
2) The Eye- $12.4 million
3) 27 Dresses- $8.5 million------$57.2 million
4) Meet the Spartans- $7.3 million------$28.5 million
5) Rambo- $7.1 million------$29.9 million
6) Juno- $7 million------$109.8 million
7) The Bucket List- $6.7 million------$67.5 million
8) Untraceable- $5.1 million------$19.1 million
9) Cloverfield- $4.8 million------$71.9 million
10) There Will Be Blood- $4.7 million------$21 million

My buddy is a movie critic and said that Meet the Spartans was one of the top 5 worst movies that he's ever seen...and he's contractually obligated to see EVERY movie that comes into our local theaters.

He loved Cloverfield, but said it fell to the "Signs Phenomenon"...as in, the movie is awesome until you actually SEE the monster/alien/whatever.

My anticipation level for The Dark Knight is reaching epic proportions.

Anyone can be a critic.

But I'd have to agree, Meet the Spartans didn't attract me. Nor did Cloverfield, which I did see, and hoenst to God I wanted to strangle myself.

So how did you like The Best of Both Worlds tour?

Thanks for clearing that up.

I meant he's actually a movie critic...as in, he gets paid to write columns in the newspaper and give reviews on radio and television.

I think I might try and see Fools Gold tonight. A big drop was expected for Miley Cyrus

*Its only playing in less than 700 theaters
*Some theaters are actually charging up to $15 a ticket!
*It was only supposed to be a 1 week engagement so her fans bought up tickets on fandango like crazy. Disney extended its run so it could cash in on the low budget flick which is expected to finish with around $75 million

Quote:
This wknd's top 10
1) Fool's Gold-
$22 million
2) Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins- $17.1 million
3) Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Tour- $10.5 million------$53.4 million
4) The Eye- $6.6 million------$21.6 million
5) Juno- $5.7 million------$117.6 million
6) 27 Dresses- $5.7 million------$65.4 million
7) The Bucket List- $5.3 million------$75.1 million
8) Rambo- $4.1 million------$36.5 million
9) Meet the Spartans- $4.1 million------$33.9 million
10) There Will Be Blood- $4.1 million------$26.8 million
Im looking forward to seeing Jumper this coming wknd. Also cant complain with seeing Rachel Bilson in a sex scene haha

10,000 BC is so over hyped. I saw it last night and was disappointed. Its marketed as a big action film, but theres more drama (that lags on) then action

Glengarry Glen Ross.

Ridiculous title, excellent movie. It was pretty refreshing to see a movie without special effects driven solely by the (excellent) performances of its actors. Its from 93 but it has Kevin Spacey, Al Pacino, Alan Arkin and Ed Harris.
