I think I read that actually...

Saving Private Ryan
Jarhead
Black Hawk Down
Pearl Harbor(a bit long but still good)
Enemy at the Gates
U-571
Patoon
Full Metal Jacket(I remember I saw it before but don't really remember it that much)

How about "We Were Soldiers", with Mel Gibson I believe, it was pretty good...

I know this isn't directly a war movie, but Lord of War was a pretty gnarly flick.

A good book is Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose, which is what the mini series is based off of. But the book is better, it goes in more depth of what happened and how it happened. I admit, I cried at the end of both the mini series and the book where it talks about what happened to them after the war.

No one says Apocalypse Now? I thought that was a great film.

If you like WWII movies Das Boot is really good. It is about a German U-boat. Be prepared though, because it is like 3 1/2 hours long.
