I really dont know why, this doesnt make much sense. Sanders cannot play CF and with his injured hammies, is not a sure bet the be able to play the field, period. You have Ortiz at DH, Drew and Manny in the corner slots and Crisp, who is playing better, in CF. Where would you play him and what would you give up to get the 3 month rental of a shell of a player?

We wouldn't be giving up much of anything. probably mostly money. If sanders comes in I think it means WMP will be dealt. Sanders will become the 4th OF and RH bat off the bench.

he's not the best option but anything is better than WMP at this point. hell, im sure KC would do WMP for Sanders straight up anyway
Posted

Um yeah straight up? No, seriously with all the problems with Wily Mo, he is the next Ryan Howard. The guy needs time, dont give up on him yet. With Manny producing less and less, we'll need another big bat in the line-up when he leaves. I'll bet a big dollar when Manny goes in 09, Wily Mo will be out in left, if he can get some regular playing time the rest of this year and next.

Anyone that would do Sanders for WMP straight up is an idiot, unless your the one who has Sanders.

bold statement.

Had you said he's the next Dunn, only a worse fielder, I might buy into it. But Ryan Howard?

Posted
With everyday plaing, WMP could be a .260-.270 hitter and put up 25-35 hr a season. The key word is could, definitely not trading him for Reggie Sanders and I don't think the sox do.

Seriously did anyone think Ryan Howard could be Ryan Howard. The guy had plus power, but had huge holes in his swing. He didnt get alot of playing time, thanks to Thome...right? Then boom, he got his time, and had a breakout season... at the age of 26. Saying Wily Mo is the next Ryan Howard might be bold, but it's something that is very possible.

Ryan Howard has brains for one and has a great work ethic.

WMP has no brains, and apparently no work ethic. WMP also has nowhere to play. Philly was willing to move Thome to make room for Howard because Thome was hurt and ha d a huge contract. Theres no one like that one the Sox.

Interesting comparison..."bold" would be the right word

To this point you can see the career numbers are close in terms of at-bats...but thats where it ends:

Howard: 1209 ABs, 106 HRs, 399 Ks, 197 BB, 1.007 OPS

Pena: 1230 ABs, 66 HRs, 430 Ks, 85 BB, .779 OPS

....Ryan Howard...Wily Mo Pena is not

Jacko, you know as much as anybody... when you compare Reggie Sanders with Wily Mo as your backup, its a no doubter that Reggie is the better bet. Better glove and far better of a consistent hitter than Wily Mo is

Considering its the Royals and its 39 year old Reggie Sanders, it shouldnt take much. Maybe a David Pauley type of deal

We need someone like Sanders though. And adequate RHH 4th outfielder, decent with the glove and the bat.

It pains me to say it, but if he's not gonna play I'd like to see WMP shipped out of here for some help for this year's stretch run.

I heard Sean McAdam say that the Sox might be intrested in Millar... as SOTK said earlier, if Theo is concerned with these types of non-impact players then we might as well get used to watching our once tremendous AL lead dwindle to nothing. We need a big bat in this lineup, I am starting to think J.D. Drew has no power and Ortiz and Manny while being still good they may not be able to carry the entire team. I would love to see a package for Texeria personally, maybe a Crisp and Bowden and somebody eles.

The fact is, this team needs to make an impact deal. The Yanks are gonna be within at least 3 IMO soon enough. The problem is this years market is thin and people like Pena are going for people like Sanders

this yrs market has yet to be determined as well. I think Tex doesnt get dealt this deadline but I absolutely see him somewhere else by the beginning of 08. Dunn will likely be on the market. Griffey should be as well, although he is approaching 600 too, so they might want to get the media boost from that. Sanders will move, but not for anything big.

I saw howard play on a regular basis in double a, there was never a question that he was going to be a star. He crushed the Reading Phillies homerun record.

Holy s*** Adam. Are the constant emails that you send to yeszir not enough for you? Jesus Christ...go the f*** away.

Every new user name he creates has some denomination of " adam" in it too......wow.

Posted
The Yankees are shopping Damon. We could pick him up and use him as a 4th outfielder. He has about enough strength in his arm to hit the cut off man from mid center field. Since his haircut, he's much faster too! Think about the 4th outfielder option, you all, we could even get an exemption from the commissioner for his disability.

It's looking more and more to me like we're going to have to bite our lip and do everything we can to get Tex. Ellsbury, Youk, Lester, Bowden...whatever it takes. I'd like to hold onto Bucholz, but Jesus the Yankees are f***ing good.

I think the chances are slim of us landing Tex, or any marquis players for that matter. The Yanks are good but were better, and I don't know why we would screw with are good chemistry. I geuss will have to wait and see.

Because, Teixeira is a f***ing beast, and would add an additonal win or two to the Red Sox lineup. Chemistry is overrated. Talent is what matters in the end.

It's all so much clearer now. Johnson & Johnson is good at chemistry.

The Yankees had this guy.

And then this guy.

But they never had both of them together, so they couldn't take advantage of the Johnson & Johnson chemistry factor. Stupid Yankees.

We aren't beating Atlanta's package unless we throw in Buchholz and it'd be really cool if we didn't do that.
