This is the list of pitchers in the top 50 of the pinstripes plus list and how they are doing at this very moment, 2 months deep. The number on the left corresponds to their ranking in the top 50

1. Hughes- AAA: 2-1 3.94ERA 16IP 11H 4BB 17K .200BAA 0.94WHIP

MLB: 1-1 3.38ERA 10.2IP 7H 4BB 11K .189BAA 1.03WHIP (on DL)

3. Betances- currently in Extended Spring training. Will debut in Staten Island in one week. Reports out of Ex ST have been very solid, but the Yankees have a history of limiting inning for their HS draftees, and this is no exception

5. Clippard- AAA: 3-2 2.72ERA 39.2IP 40H 17BB 41K .268BAA 1.43WHIP

MLB: 2-1 4.20ERA 15IP 13H 8BB 10K .228BAA 1.40WHIP

6. Kennedy- A+: 6-1 1.28ERA 63IP 39H 72K 22BB .183BAA 0.97WHIP

AA: Starts tonight for Trenton

8. Garcia- currently on the DL after having Tommy John surgery. Has begun rehabbing and throwing off flat ground as he had TJ back in October. Will NOT pitch this season, but will likely start next season in Tampa (A+ ball)

9. Marquez- AA: 7-3 2.62ERA 65.1IP 63H 35K 18BB .251BAA 1.24WHIP

11. Chamberlain- A+: 3-0 2.06ERA 35IP 19H 42K 11BB .161BAA 0.86WHIP

12. Cox- On the DL with elbow surgery (not Tommy John). Could potentially return by the end of the season

13. Melancon- on the DL with Tommy John. Had surgery in October. Rehab is going well, he is throwing off flat ground. Will NOT throw in a game this season. Likely slated for Tampa next season.

16. Reyes- A 0-2 4.65ERA 31IP 25H 33K 21BB .217BAA 1.48WHIP

18. McCallister- Just as with Betances, the Yankees like to limit innings for their HS pitchers. McCallister is pitching in Extended Spring training and will likely report to Staten Island in a week.

19. Beam- AAA 1-2 4.09ERA 22IP 26H 23K 8BB .289BAA 1.55WHIP

20. White- A+ (rehab assignment) 1-0 3.65ERA 12.1IP 13H 11K 2BB .265BAA 1.22WHIP

22. DeSalvo- Need I go here?

23. Horne- AA 5-3 2.67ERA 64IP 60H 75K 16BB .244BAA 1.19WHIP

(as a caveat, Horne was rated this low because his performance in his first full pro season was marred by tinkering with his mechanics (hence the 4.5BB/9IP mark). In terms of potential, the writers at pinstripes plus actually picked him to be one of the 2 biggest potential movers up this list this season and he has shown exactly that)

24. Nova- A 3-2 1.45ERA 31IP 21H 16K 8BB

(in reference to Horne, Nova was considered the other potential fast mover this pre season and he has shown exactly that. Armed with a mid 90s fastball and impeccable control, look for this 20 yr old to climb the ranks and likely finish the season in Tampa)

25. Castillo- As with McCallister and Betances, Castillo has been living in Extended ST. The 20 yr old needs to show a return to the velocity that got him signed out of the DR to climb the list. 2 yrs ago he was sitting 95-96, last yr he was sitting 90. Reports out of Ex ST say that he has regained some, but not all of that velocity)

26. Karstens- I think you guys know what you did to him!

27. Henn- I think you know this guy too. Potential as a lefty specialist, that is about it

28. Tejeda- A 0-0 3.60ERA 10IP 9H 1BB 5K .243BAA 1.00WHIP

29. Kontos- A+ 0-2 3.12ERA 17.1IP 14H 22K 5BB .215BAA 1.10WHIP (currently on DL)

30. Norton- A 1-3 3.71ERA 26.2IP 28H 32K 8BB .262BAA 1.35WHIP

31. Patterson- AWFUL, expected to be released at the end of the yr

The only other notables on this list are

Chase Wright, who has excelled in the minors, had an okay and a poor outing in the majors and is now battling in AAA.

Jeff Kennard, absolutely dominating AA right now. Is a power armed reliever who may have a future in the Bronx if his control improves.

Rolando Japa, who has been in Ex St and is not much of a prospect.

Jason Jones- another non-prospect who was 50 out of 50 and likely has no future in the majors.

And Daniel McCutchen- suspended for 50 games for violating the substance abuse policy by not getting his prescription Ritalin cleared through the MLB. McCutchen has dominated A+ ball to this point (5-0 2.72ERA 35/9 K/BB rate and a .250BAA) and is certainly rising the lists.

Another player who didn’t make the list was David Robertson. He was not expected to sign with the Yankees when they drafted him as a draft eligible sophomore last yr. He signed late and never really made it onto the lists as he should have. In A ball, he currently has a 0.77ERA in 35 relief innings and has struck out an amazing 48 batters in that span. He is due for a callup.

Other guys to keep an eye on….

Kevin Whelan- The most active chip in the Sheffield deal, he has a 2.79ERA in 29 relief innings for AA Trenton. His .176 BAA is astounding, as is his 37 K’s in 29 innings, but the 22 walks is something he has to work on. This is only his 3rd yr pitching, so he should get a little better, one would think

Ross Ohlendorf- acquired in the RJ trade. Was injured shortly into the season (back injury) and just couldn’t push through. People were wondering what was wrong with him as in just 35 innings this season, he nearly matched his 2006 total in walks. He will likely be back in a few weeks, but the Yankees will be careful with their biggest chip from the RJ deal.

Anthony Claggett- acquired in the Sheffield trade. At the time, was the 13th rated Tigers prospect in their system. Has shown good power (24K in 29IP) but he has been entirely too hittable (.291BAA).

Humberto Sanchez- On the DL with TJ surgery. Will start out in Scranton next season, most likely as the closer.

Steven Jackson- the other guy in the RJ deal. Has been utterly abysmal and at 25-26 yrs old, he is likely running out of time with his new organization.

Edwar Ramirez: A reliever who started out in the Angels organization, came over to the Yankees org last yr and dominated. He is 26 right now and was considered to be a non-prospect until he put up this ridiculous line through 2 stops in the yankee system this season (AA and AAA combined)

3-0 0.66ERA 27.1IP 12H 50K 11BB .126BAA 0.84WHIP That is ridiculous, and he might see himself in the Bronx if he keeps this up.

Overall, when you look at the pitching in this system, it is loaded and it is either injured or surging.

Conclusion:

Graduated

Hughes and Clippard have reached the bigs, and will likely stay there once Hughes gets healthy that is.

DeSalvo has also graduated, into the land of suck.
