A's to sign Giambi
Per Buster Olney. Imminent signing apparently. 1 yr with an option for a second

It'll be interesting to see how he's received at Yankee Stadium.

Re: A's to sign Giambi
Why would he be received poorly? There was no way he was coming back, and he didn't go to a rival. He's not one of the Yankee greats, but he did well in his time.

Yeah, I'd expect a polite applause. It's just always interesting to see a former player come back to some place where he spent a lot of his career.

Re: A's to sign Giambi
So with Jack Cust manning DH by default, Giambi has to play the field. And I guess that means Daric Barton is sent to the bench, bummer.

I think he deserves a standing ovation, and will probably get it.

More than the 23MM he made in 2008? Good luck to him there.

Re: A's to sign Giambi
Def was one of the easiest signings to predict this offseason. Giambi will be the DH, Barton at 1b, Cust in the outfield. Barton's up and down year might have the A's FO thinking he'll be down in Triple A
Burrell to the Rays, Giambi to the A's. Both moves are solid (plus cheap) additions that are both capable of 30/100. Bradley for 3 years $30 million is expensive for the DL guy who can be a mental case
I see Griffey to the Mariners, Abreu to the Mets, and Manny back with the Dodgers. Also think the Nats will pull out their checkbook and get a package deal of Orlando Hudson/Adam Dunn
EDIT: Buster Olney is reporting that the 1 year deal is $5.25 million with the option year being worth $4 million. Aside from Boras' clients, its a buyers market right now

Re: A's to sign Giambi
I'm not sure Cust is a good call to be playing the field.

When Jack Cust does pushups, he doesn't lift himself up. He pushes the earth down.
