McGwire Finally Comes Clean

In a statement released by the St. Louis Cardinals, McGwire said that he began using steroids in the late 1980’s and used them “on occasion throughout the 1990’s,” including the 1998 season, when McGwire captivated the nation by hitting 70 home runs to break the all-time single season record of 61 held by Roger Maris.

A little obvious, but noteworthy I think.

You mean he wasn't all natural? I don't believe it!
Note: since lately people have not been getting some of my posts as jokes when it is clear they are, this post is a JOKE! Please do not go posting about "Oh how could you think he was clean?" blah blah blah. Okay I'm done.

“The use of steroids and amphetamines amongst today’s players has greatly subsided and is virtually non-existent as our testing results have shown,” Selig said. “The so-called “steroid era” — a reference that is resented by the many players who played in that era and never touched the substances — is clearly a thing of the past, and Mark’s admission today is another step in the right direction.”
|
Either Selig is an idiot, or he really thinks everyone else is an idiot.

Re: McGwire Finally Comes Clean
I knew this was a matter of time when he was named the Cards' hitting coach. Do you realize what kind of distraction that would've been had he kept his silence?

He perjured himself but he came out because the statute of limitations has passed.

Re: McGwire Finally Comes Clean
A great player who helped save baseball. In my opinion, the fact that he used steroids is almost irrelevant. I know that isn't the popular opinion, and I'm not looking to get into a debate over something that has been discussed ad nauseam, just sharing my thoughts on the matter.

Your thoughts would be correct. Not only were steroids widespread anyway, but he would have been a great ballplayer even without steroids. You still have to square up the ball, and the juice doesn't help with that.

He didn't perjure himself. He refused to answer the question about steroid use. That's not perjury. It was very telling that he was hiding it, but it was not perjury. Palmiero committed perjury. McGwire needed to put this behind him. I think he will be activated at some point in the season to PH. That will delay his eligibility for the HOF by 5 years and Bonds and Clemens will be the cases of first impression regarding steroid use.

He won't, but they already reported long ago that he tested positive in '03.
Report: Sosa tested positive in 2003

Re: McGwire Finally Comes Clean
I think I have less respect for McGwire today than I did yesterday, which wasn't very much. I think his motives were selfish, and after watching his interview with Bob Costas I was disgusted. Everything he said was a joke, as was his crying routine. In fact the best part of seeing that interview was seeing that ugly piece of shit cry on national television. The fact that he had the nerve to say that the steroids didn't have any influence on his performance and that he genuinely thinks he still would have hit 70 home runs in '98 and put up the numbers that he did even without steroids was an absolute disgrace and a slap in the face to anybody with an IQ in double digits. What a disgrace to the game. I can't wait until the Cards come to Citi Field to play the Mets so I can go boo the shit out of this man. I hope he NEVER sees Cooperstown.
Fuck you Mark McGwire!
