Gary Carter dies of brain cancer
As most of you know, I started out as a kid who liked both the Mets and Yankees. I grew up in CT, and my dad was a rare fan who liked both teams. I was more a Mets fan until my favorite player, Darryl Strawberry, left in 1991, when I was 10 yrs old. Then I became a die hard Yankee fan and rooted for what became my favorite player of all time, Don Mattingly. I remember watching the 1986 world series with my dad at the young age of 5. I remember when Carter got the hit to start the Game 6 Buckner extra inning and I remember his demeanor behind the dish up until the final out. I may have been a kid then, but Gary Carter was always someone I attributed to my youth as he was on one of the first teams I have ever followed. RIP Gary, you leave far too young, but your impression on this young baseball player was indelible.

Re: Gary Carter dies of brain cancer
I saw the headline on a website "Baseball great Carter dies of cancer" and for some reason thought Joe, not Gary, even though I know Gary was the one with the cancer. Anyways, really sad. There's a guy on the dead-pool I'm a member of who had Houston and Carter, he's up to four of his ten picks for the year and it's only February. He won't shut up about it. He won last year too, beat me 7 picks to 6, because some Australian author I'd never heard of kicked on Christmas Eve.
Aaaanyways, this is indeed sad, as it always is when baseball loses a figure.

R.I.P. Gary Carter. Didn't like you in 86 but whatever. Class baseball player.
My boyfriend in high school worshipped him. He was a fan first of him and second of the team he played for. Never understood that. I'm sure he's sad today.

Of course, you would know more about an old age home as you are at least 6 or so years older than me. I heard the sad news while at work.
Now take your imaginary "crown" and insert it in your arse!
