Jays bring back Gibbons...No really

The Blue Jays confirmed that they have hired Gibbons to manage the team.

The Blue Jays will announce John Gibbons as their new manager at some point on Tuesday morning, according to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun.

meh, I'm not sure I'd be thrilled if I was a Blue Jays fan. He was a .500 manager last time through. And had issues with players. Are they not concerned about possible issues between Gibbons and players like Rasmus and Lawrie?
I really thought they were going to go Hargrove which I thought made some sense. But apparently AA has a long history with the guy and well if it fails neither one is going to be around to pick up the pieces.

Isn't Gibbons the guy who used to tell combat stories about his time and Vietnam, and then it was uncovered that he never served in Vietnam?

idk but I remember there being some weird post game interviews and didn't he used to routinely lie about injuries and what he was doing with the lineups/rotations?
This could end up being a dumpster fire in Toronto.
I'll put the over under on knock down drag outs between him and Rasmus at 1.5 for the first half of the season

Re: Jays bring back Gibbons...No really
Why do the Blue Jays like bringing back former managers to mange their team again? That just seems kind of weird and this is at least second time they've done this.

My recollection was faulty on this. The Jays manager who got in trouble for lying about serving in Vietnam was Tim Johnson.

Can't see why they would recycle a manager that they canned not to long ago. Especially, after the investment they just made with their team.

Re: Jays bring back Gibbons...No really
It sort of seems like Anthopoulos wanted to go somewhere familiar with a manager rather than really test the waters. This seems like one of those ones where if it tanks everyone will say they saw it coming, and if it works out they'll be talking about how smart Anthopoulos is. Either way, it's going to be interesting to watch.
