Joey Gathright traded to K.C.
Quote:
Royals acquired outfielder Joey Gathright and infielder Fernando Cortez from the Devil Rays for LHP J.P. Howell.
Gathright may be the fastest player in baseball, but he's yet to prove he can hit at the major league level and he's also overrated defensively. He'll have to improve a lot just to be an average regular in center field, and it's hard to imagine him becoming something more than that. With David DeJesus already entrenched, the Royals needed Howell more. We're guessing the Royals will keep Gathright in Triple-A for now and then make him a regular after either Reggie Sanders or Emil Brown is traded. Maybe this will cause them to put Justin Huber back at first base, which is where he belongs. Jun. 20 - 6:28 pm et

Joey Gathright: I'm a backup outfielder for the Devil Rays! Doesn't get much worse than this. Do your worst! Mwhahaahah-
Devil Rays' Management: Okay, you're going to Kansas City.
Joey Gathright: -ahahha...wait, what? No!
Devil Rays' Management: Haha, owned, bitch!

Could be a steal, considering how fast he is. If he can get on-base more, he'll be lethal and he still has time to develop that skill.

FUCK! I really wanted this guy. What ever happened to the D'Rays demanding everything from the other team. I've never heard of Howell.

Howell's like a David Pauley type prospect
Gathright is WAY overrated and most likely will never have a OBP above .340.

Gathright will be lucky to be an everyday player in the majors....he just doesn't have that much talent other than speed.

I guess he could't even stand to be in the same league as Tavarez. I can't blame him.

Re: Joey Gathright traded to K.C.
The D-Rays have more speed and young OF's than you can shake a stick at, whatever that means. They have Upton still in Minors with no real position, Baldelli just came back and is hitting everything, I hear even Carl Crawford may be moved. Red Sox please (won't happen, just a pipedream)!

Re: Joey Gathright traded to K.C.
Gathright is waaaay overrated. His speed isn't worth shit if he can't get on base. Tampa should have traded him in the off-season when his value was higher.
