Re: eric gagne
Yeah, he did not look good at all. I was watching the game.
Particularly funny to me was the jersey he was wearing looked like a 6X and he wore it like a nightgown, untucked, until the plate ump told him to fix it

Re: eric gagne
I called that homer, too. Unfortunately, I was alone in the living room, so no one was there to congratulate me.
PS: My man Craig Counsell gettin' it done!

Re: eric gagne
By the All-Star break, he will be the most overpaid mop-up guy in the league.

Re: eric gagne
Gotta love it.... The Mitchell report comes out, and something strange happened. Also strange that the team he came from (Rangers) had more people on that particular report that any other team (in total, not active)... Cue the twilight zone music (and/or Benny Hill, if we're still discussing the Rangers)....

Re: eric gagne
Here are Eric Gagne's 20 2007 appearances with Boston:
| Leverage | WHIP | | 0.00 | 1 | | 0.02 | 0 | | 0.04 | 2 | | 0.20 | 2 | | 0.23 | 1 | | 0.27 | 0 | | 0.28 | 2 | | 0.48 | 1 | | 0.48 | 1 | | 0.53 | 2 | | 0.69 | 1 | | 0.69 | 1 | | 0.75 | 0 | | 1.13 | 3 | | 1.64 | 2 | | 1.65 | 1 | | 1.97 | 12 | | 2.20 | 3 | | 3.31 | 4 | | 3.70 | 5 |
When the leverage was under 1.00--when the situation was less critical than it would be for a starting pitcher on his first pitch--he was great. The mean of these 13 WHIPs is 1.08. When leverage was over 1.00--usually a save or hold situation--he was terrible. The mean of those seven WHIPs is 4.37...the median is 3.00.
Look, this seems to be a case of an MLB pitcher losing his nerve...this seems to be Calvin Schiraldi redux, except with an ex-Cy Young closer suffering from the problem.
Signing such a pitcher to a $10 million contract to close for a contending team may have been a mistake.

I was 12 at the time, and I recall it being the first time I felt hate. I wanted bad things to happen to that woman and her white sleeves.

Re: eric gagne
All the '86 WS games at Shea featured this twit lady who wore either a white undershirt or white sleeves to cover her forearm (contrasted against dark clothing elsewhere). These sleeves really stuck out, and she was right behind home plate. When the Sox were on the field, as the pitcher was staring in / winding up, she would roll her forearms like Daunte Culpepper after a TD. She did it incessantly. Every pitch.

Re: eric gagne
Haha, Gagne gave up back to back jacks to tie the game for the Reds in the bottom of the ninth, before Griffey had a walkoff hit against him...I think the best part is that one of those home runs was to Paul friggin Bako, the career backup backup catcher with a .002 OBP.

Re: eric gagne
Haha and again, lets the Cards tie it in the ninth, Brewers win in 12 on a walkoff single by Kapler.
