Re: Hello, 11 Active Members
If you're going for that business look, I'd suggest a place like Macy's or JCPenny. Lots of known brands for the same look and lower prices. Not sure if you have that in Texas but if you do, check it out. If you're looking for dress shirts to go out, I like going to places like express, armani exchange, urban outfitters, guess. A little bit more money but I like to look good.

I love Macy's and JCPenny for that work/business look. If you really dig through either store more times than not you can get yourself great jackets and pants for a Hell of a lot cheaper than any of those big named places like Men's Warehouse. Better yet, it's really difficult to tell the difference unless someone is an absolute snob. JC Penny you can seriously save money if you pay attention to the sales and stuff.
As for going out dress shirts, I have a preference to Macy's as well but I notice I'm able to run that bill up really quick.

Re: Hello, 11 Active Members
I'm a big fan of Men's Warehouse. They are a good place to get started because you can get measured there. You can also get measured as Jos A. Bank (probably the most expensive place ever)
I am a big fan of Men's Warehouse tie and accessory (cuff links, tie pins, suit handkerchief) collection. Their suits are good (but overpriced) so you'd probably be better off at Macy's and JCPenny there. Kohl's is also worth a mention imo.
I am not a fan of Men's Warehouse dress shirts though, and you can get a shitload of them at Walmart for like $15-$20 a piece in black, grey, white, light blue, and medium blue. (I personally go to XPress since they have a much larger range of colors, but they are a skinny person only store) You can also get decent khaki's and dress pants from Walmart too. (They have them as low as $11 but they don't support my fat ass)
It all depends what you are going for. I recommend saving at the store and splurging at the tailor. Fitted matters. Now if it's just for work rather than "dressing to impressing" off the rack works in a pinch.

Re: Hello, 11 Active Members
Men's Warehouse no doubt is nice, but it really is overpriced. I rented a tux for prom and I slapped myself for spending so much money for a look I could have got somewhere else, much much cheaper.

Suits: Nordstroms (if I have to look good, might as well go all out)
Pants: Express (last forever)
Shirts: Kohls (cheap, decent selection)

Nordstroms caters to women and they are extremely overpriced. If I am throwing out the budget, I'd opt for Barney's.
Men's Warehouse - good selection of suits, reasonably priced and excellent tailoring. If you want to go all out, go to Barney's.
Shirts -- Kohls is good, and believe it or not Sears used to have a very good selection of high end dress shirts at discount prices when they ran sales.

For pants, I like levi's from JCpenny. Nice look at about 30 a piece, maybe cheaper since they're always on sale.

I sort of miss having a Sears that was worth going to for their dress shirts. I grew up in Western MA and our Sears turned into a total dump out there. I could always go there for dress shirts before though. Haven't had a chance to get out to a Sears since I've moved out here though..... Or even really a reason to yet.

Not going for a business look necessarily, I just need a shakeup from the wannabe crack dealer look I've found myself rocking lately. And I need something to go bar-hopping downtown.
They have Macy's and JCPenney in New England. If they have them in Florida too, they're probably out here as well.

Since when do they have dress shirts at Wal-Mart? I've gone and looked in the men's sections there both here in Texas and in New Hampshire, even a few in Massachusetts, and the nicest shirts I ever saw were those grubby plaid or striped button downs, usually white or off-green, a.k.a. the official uniform of the douchebag.
I just looked, there's 3 Kohls in Austin, but they're all either north or west side. I'm central/southeast-ish, it's enough of a bitch just getting to the south part of town.
As far as colors, just black or dark navy will do.

You mean there was a time when Sears wasn't a dump? All I've ever associated that place with is dirty floors and an unnecessary amount of washing machines.

Speaking of shitholes, I priced a trip to Yellowknife* today, just for the lolz. Not going.
*that was the term that the only person I know who ever lived there used to describe it.

I've definitely bought dress shirts in CT and NH Walmarts. The ones closest to me were in Gilford and Rochester. I don't know about any Walmarts down your way. They were typically next to the tie and belt displays.
I agree they have plenty of dbag clothes, like black dickies pants and redneck flannels, but they have some cheap/acceptable dress shirts in white, black, medium blue, and powder blue. I usually pick up a few since they are the bread and butter of dress shirt colors. They are typically wrapped in plastic packages so you might not find them hanging individually like a lot of their clothes.
Here's an example:

I'd def recommend buying in person than buying online for this type of thing though.

Re: Hello, 11 Active Members
The only decent clothes I've found at Walmart is sports stuff. Some of their jeans are not terrible, too, but I refuse to shop there because it's always a bad experience. The only decent Walmart I've ever been in was Olean, NY. They had their shit together. Other places, not so much (eg one register open and a line down the complete width of the store)
