Boston commute question
I am in Boston now, picking up someone to bring back to Connecticut. On the way here, I noticed that the Pike going back is backed up for a distance roughly that of the Earth to the moon. Is there any way to get back to Hartford without using the Pike?

Re: Boston commute question
Unfortunately, the Pike is your best bet if heading back to Hartford. Westbound, between Allston and Framingham, traffic will be very heavy. It will loosen up a tad there, and even more once you get past Rt.495 in Westboro.
My recommendation is to have something to eat or delay your start in some way until after 7:00PM.

Re: Boston commute question
No. You have to take the pike to 84. It only usually backs up 3-4 miles from the exit to 84 when the traffic is bad.

Re: Boston commute question
If you're northwest of Boston, you can go 495 to 290 and then to 90. That way you're only on the pike for about 10 miles. backup usually isn't that bad. But you're probably long gone by now.

Re: Boston commute question
I'm going to be in Boston tonight for a concert and I also have a commute related question. Anyone know about using the T? I have taken the train in many times from riverside, but today I have to take it from riverside to park and then take the bus to somewhere in Cambridge. Switching from train to bus, do I have to pay a whole new fare, or what? And how late do the buses and trains run on a saturday?

Re: Boston commute question
The MBTA usually doesn't run anything after midnight on the weekends if I remember correct.

I was in Cambridge, and I ended up just taking the Pike. I was stuck in near-standstill traffic from the second I got on the Pike until about fifteen miles later, and then I got stuck again around Worcester for another ten miles or so. The trip from Boston to Hartford took about 3 and a half hours. There HAS to be a way to avoid it completely. My friend said the last time she took the bus from Boston to Hartford, the driver avoided the Pike because of heavy traffic by going by way of Providence.

I just assume that'd be taking 95 down thru RI until you can take some obscure route up through CT

That would be likely taking 95 to New Haven and then heading up 91 to Hartford. Unless there's a more direct way off of 95 which I don't know about.
