Serenity
The movie serenity came out today. For those of you who do not know it is based off the cancelled tv show Firefly. The normal reaction when hearing this is why would they make a movie off a show that got cancelled after one season. The answer is because they released the tv show on dvd and its sales did very well. A friend of mine convinced me to watch the show then the movie. Unfortunately, by the time i was done with the episodes the movie was out of theatres. The series was excellent.
The movie was one of the best movies i've seen in a long time. It is definately still enjoyable if you haven't watched the show, but it does help to have the background. I read a quote in a review that went something like, "If for some strange reason I could only see one movie this winter, it would be serenity, and if i were given a choice of a second I'd probably watch it again."
If giving an opinion on a movie doesn't belong here someone who has been a member here longer than me feel free to let me know. I figured it was ok in this forum.

Re: Serenity
I'm actually looking forward to seeing it. I'm a big Joss Whedon fan. I have read the original series got screwwwed by Fox.

Re: Serenity
Yes, a crazy chick does kick everyones ass. There is a lot more to the movie though. Not just an action movie where lots of people die. It just came out yesterday and was #1 in dvd sales on amazon.com. You're probably remembering the trailors when it was in the theatre, where it didn't do well.

Re: Serenity
As a very enthusiastic Browncoat, I have tp say this is the best movie to be released since Fight Club.
And yes, the original show was screwed by Fox. As retribution against Whedon for not doing yet another Buffy spinoff like they wanted, they aired the fourteen first season episodes in mixed up order, showing the pilot episode LAST.
Instant cult classic.

Re: Serenity
I loved this movie when I saw it in theaters. I was lucky I decided to see it.....I only went to see it because I liked that Baldwin fellow who also played Animal Mother in Full Mother Jacket...
