Soriano refuses to take field for Nationals

Alfonso Soriano - 2B - WAS - Mar. 20 - 7:36 pm et

The Nationals attempted to start Alfonso Soriano in left field for Monday's game against the Dodgers, but he wouldn't take the field.

GM Jim Bowden said that Soriano will be given a second chance to play the outfield on Wednesday afternoon against the Cardinals. If he refuses to play the outfield that day, the team most likely will put him on the disqualified list without pay. It continues to look like a trade might be the only solution here. Soriano might eventually back down under the threat of losing $10 million, but his unhappiness would likely affect his play. Mar. 20 - 7:36 pm et

Dont get me wrong here, Soriano is an ass for not moving BUT why did they trade for him in the first place? Soriano didnt want to move to the OF for the Yankees or Rangers. What made them think that he would move for them?

if i could play in the MLB, i wouldnt give a s*** what position i played. Hes your typical spoiled athlete who only wants to do what he wants. Why want he play OF, that doesnt make sense. Hes a more valuable OF than a 2nd baseman since his defense sucks.

On the other hand, the Nationals should have made sure that Soriano would be willing to play OF for them before they made the deal. Its common sense.

Alfonso Soriano is a dickhead. He'll cave. He's not going to delay his FA another season or lose his 10 million over this.

What a moronic move. You get paid to play baseball for a living, suck it up. Whatever value you think you gain by being a 2b is toally and absolutely dstroyed by your selfishness in refusing doing whats best for the team. effing moron.

What I don't get is why people think the Nationals should have checked with him first. I think they knew he didn't want to play the outfield, and said, f*** it, he'll either play the OF for us or he won't get paid. Good for them, I hope the prima donna flounders in the OF and his offensive numbers get killed in that expansive park going into his FA year.

Yes lets replace the professional Mark Loretta with selfish Soriano. Say goodbye to the great infield defense then. Soriano in a Red Sox uni. is sure to make me sick.

Yea i don't want to see Soriano as a redsox either, but with Epstein up there, he wants to improve his team on "stats". So I can see Theo picking up Soriano to make his team better. But I def. don't want to see soriano. If he does come to boston, i'll freakin be pissed as s***

Util game one when he goes yard

becuase I am the same way on Damon, I hate him, but if he proforms, then....oh well

Well, lets see, its selfish, dumb, etc, etc, hes on my fantasty team too........etc etc

that covers it

But I do hope he does the right thing, cuz it could ruin his career otherwise, or at least the finacial part of it

The Red Sox already have a good enough offense. Defense is a priority and didn't Theo say it was their fatal flaw before he made the Nomar deal in 2004. He will not be trading for Soriano when frankly Loretta is more than capable of playing second.

I saw on BSPN last night that Soriano has the worst fielding percentage of any 2nd baseman in the last 50 years. I know he wants to play 2nd, but face it---he sucks. Take your $10 mil and shag fly balls!

Past 5 seasons he has made 100+ errors, overall he has a .969 fielding %. Yuck

I love Soriano, but dont get me wrong. It is absolutely ridiculous that he isnt willing to move. However, why on earth would Bowden trade Wilkerson (argueably the franchise player), Sledge, and the pitching prospect for a guy who play sa position that they are already set at. And the dumbest part is they didnt even talk to Sori beforehan. They just expected him to move.

Thats like the Yankees trading for Guerrero and saying "go catch."

Sori, stick it out, play Left Field, hit the market and come to the Mets and play second or come back HOME and DH.

EXACTLY! I can't believe how ppl are putting the blame on Sori when the Nats are the one's who are completely at fault here.

How in hell are you going to trade for a 2b & demand him to play LF? If I was in his shoes or cleats I would be doing the same exact thing.

Still an idiotic move by the Nats ...

Number of games Sori has played as a LF = 0

Best thing Bowden could do is trade Sori to the Mets for Floyd or a package of Victor Diaz & a few prospects ...

One Bowden probably couldn't even get that. And Soriano has I believe played Left Field in Yankees spring training but ended up switching with Knoblauch when he gave up fielding at second. The yanks had soriano penciled in left in 2001.

There's a real good reason why you NEVER be a GM of any sport.
