First, you don't have to read all this. It really is a lot. I'm just typing it out because I think it would make me feel better and I'm sure I'm going to have to tell the story a million times in the next few days, so it'd help in a few ways.
So, I was enjoying my day off today until I was reminded of how many idiots there are in this world. I was driving home from a nice little breakfast with my sister and was in a two lane road. I was in the right lane and in the other lane there was a green truck. We were coming down a hill and (let me just set the stage) at the bottom of said hill the road intersects the main road. Prior to this intersection the right lane breaks into two lanes; one stays with the left lane and gets onto the main road, the other takes you right. Where the lane breaks there is a little island that divides the two roads. If my description is not clear enough, see diagram.
So, anyways, we were coming down to the bottom of the hill; at the bottom of the hill there is a traffic light, throughout this ordeal it was red. In this gentleman's lane there was a car in front of him, there was no one in front of me. So I began to drive pass him to pull up to the light (my foot was on the brake because I was slowing for the light.) As the front of my car was about even with this guy's passenger side door, he suddenly swerves to the right (it looked like he was trying to get into the lane that goes right.) He slams into the driver's side of my car and, at this point, I flip and scream "What the hell are you doing you idiot?" (Not that nice though.) I get pass him, pull over as far as I can next to the island, put on my emergency lights and stop. He pulls in on the other side of the island and also stops. I get out of my car and storm up to his car; all I could get out was, "You were sort of in the wrong lane." So, we agree to meet up in a local parking lot because it's not safe to remain where we were. We get there and,within minutes, the police officer I called for arrives. This is the part that really pisses me off. The guy doesn't take responsibility for slamming into my car.
At first he claims he was trying to switch lanes and had his blinker on but he didn't. And as I looked at the road where the accident occured on my way home, you can't even switch lanes at that point; the dotted white lines is a solid line by the point. The officer puts all our information in and comes back over and asks what happened, again. I tell the same story I'm telling right now but this time the other guy changes his story! He said he was stopped and I slammed into him! At this point, I'm fuming. I get right in the guy's face, all 130 pounds of me, and say, " If you were stopped, how is the side of my car damaged and the front corner of your car damaged?! Why does the dent go from the front to the back?! Was I driving diagonally?!" At this point, the officer puts his hand in between us and asks me to step back. I do what the officer asks; my problem was not with him. As I'm just starting to calm down this guy shreds my last nerve. Speaking to the officer, he says, "It's not my fault this little lady can't control her vehicle; she shouldn't be driving a car with this much power anyways." I get back in the guy's face, "I can control it just fine! I've never received a ticket, I've never been in an accident before! I would have no problem if idiots didn't slam their car into me!" Then I just walk away and sit down on a nearby bench.
So, the officer tells me that neither of us will be getting a ticket because he didn't see the accident. He tells me I can go and I hop into my vehicle and pull away, making sure to give the other guy the dirtiest look I can conjure up.
My friend runs a repair shop so, rather than going home, I head over there. I figured the earlier I had the estimate, the better. He tells me it's going to cost $2400 to repair the vehicle, mostly because the door has to be completely replaced. Heed my words, I am not paying for that...and I am not receiving an insurance hike to pay for it either. I'm going to fight this guy and make sure he pays for every last penny of it.
