So people lay it on me, where to go before the game for a beer and any other touristy stuff that I should do.

The Freedom Trail is AWESOME...well, if you like American History, anyways. If you don't, it'd be like taking someone who hates theater to see Les Mis...kind of pointless, you know? But hey, it's free, and that's more than you can say for most of the things in Beantown.
Skip Top of the Pru...if you want to see it, go up to the restaurant (which is actually the floor ABOVE the lookout) and get a drink or an hors de ouvre or something and it'll end up being cheaper for you than just a ticket to Top of the Pru. This way, you get the view, and you get some booze or food out of the deal
If you have a chance...go see Blue Man Group...I think they play at the Charles Theater? Tickets are kind of expensive but they do offer discounts for certain days of the week and student specials and senior specials and blah blah blah. Next to Cirque Du Soleil, BMG is the most amazing spectacle I've ever seen on stage. Well worth whatever you have to pay to see it.
Duck Tours are a lot of fun, but can get expensive, especially if you're traveling with the whole family. Plus a lot of the stuff they take you past you can see by yourself for free.
There's no shortage of Finagle a Bagel throughout Boston...but if you've never seen a bagel to through a Rube Goldberg, it's worth the $1.
Oh! And get a canolli at Mikes in the North End or you'll hate yourself for the rest of your life.
Enjoy the city...it's my favorite place in the world and I don't even live there!
