Default Hey there

Hey guys. My name's Maria, I'm 20 years old, I'm in college, and I've been a Sox fan since I was a little girl. My parents are from there but they moved out to the Midwest right before my older brother was born. I have every intention of moving to Boston when I graduate college so I can be closer to Fenway haha. We visit family there every summer and always go to a few games, but that's just not enough. I love the Sox too much.

My favorite of all time is still Nomar cuz I used to play short stop in high school softball and my favorite current playeris Varitek. Gotta love those Georgia Tech alums. I can't really think of much else to say but hey.

Welcome.

Only thing I don't agree with you on is Nomar. Couldn't ever stand him.

That is a head scratcher. You two are roughly the same age so I assume you both saw the same Nomar years. And until the off season of 2003 and the contract talks/injury, he was the Golden Boy. He's was Ted's disciple. Christ, Sox fans sang Happy Birthday to him on his birthday.

Outside of being ROY, he was top 11 in the MVP voting 6 of the 9 years he was with the Sox (11, 9, 8, 7, 7, 2) with 2 other years lost to injury. He was a 5 time All Star at SS during the same period Jeter and Arod were both SS too.

When he and the media finally fell out and guys like Buckley (he was the worst of them all) basically painted him black, that's when you started hearing fans badmouth him. And that was only 6 months before he was shipped out.

So if Thumper has been watching the Sox for 18 years, I don't understand his take on Nomar.

I kid you not. Don't get me wrong, he was an exceptional ball player. I just feel his vibe came off as arrogant. Now, I didn't mind him playing in Boston, but I wasn't heartbroken when he went to the Dodgers either.

That's because he went via Chicago. I remember screaming in the fucking Guadeloupe airport when I learned he had been traded.

Ah I meant Chicago. I was thinking one thing and saying another.

Really and truely, I was glad he was in Boston, he was a good player, he put numbers on the board and I liked him for that. But as a person, I just never opened up to him.

I'll be the same thing with J.D. Drew, but Trot spoiled all of us really.

Oddly enough, Trot was one of my least favorite players.

How come? Sure he was no super slugger but he was a generally well player in Boston.

I never really got the arrogant vibe from Nomar. Maybe that's because of idol worship haha. The only thing that ever bothered me about him was his OCD-ness in the batter's box, but that mostly just made me laugh.

I was not too disapointed when Nomah got traded. Over the years he grew on me like a wart. He put up great numbers but never brought home the gold. And that year he came back all ballooned up, hmmm. Probably explains why he was injured so frequently the last few years with the Soxs. Still he was "the Golden Boy" and I have many better memories of him in his earlier years. And the way he was run out of town was classless.
