Knicks wanted Starbury out, Isiah pulls him back in

Some of you may have heard about this by now -- remember, I'm three hours earlier and in the midst of traveling from LA to Sacramento -- but Johnny Ludden, the former longtime San Antonio Spurs writer who has moved on to Yahoo.com fame, posted a report last night after the Knicks loss to the Clippers that said the players voted against allowing Stephon Marbury to play in the game.

Isiah played him anyway and afterward it was clear that several players on the team were furious.

What kind of message does this send to someone such as Nate Robinson, who has done everything asked of him during the offseason?

So to answer that question in your head, Fixers, yes, it can get worse. And it's about to.

Stephon must have some serious dirt.

And that’s why, less than 24 hours earlier, when Isiah Thomas dispatched Jamal Crawford to find out how the players would react if and when Marbury rejoined the team, all of them voted against allowing him to play. Thomas, according to one person who spoke with Crawford, had pledged to hold out Marbury if even a single Knick didn’t want him on the court.

So how did Thomas react to the team’s unanimous vote?

He sat Marbury until late in the first quarter then played him nearly 34 of the game’s remaining 39 minutes.

The Knicks lost, of course, falling 84-81 to an injury-riddled Clippers team that many in the league expected to be anchoring the bottom of the Western Conference. Marbury clanged a late 3-pointer, then was powerless to stop Cuttino Mobley from backing him down for the clinching turnaround bank shot.

How much value does he have at this point? Aside from being a big contract, I don't see any reason anybody would want the guy -- he's a shooting guard playing point guard and I'm sure he'd refuse to play the 2-guard, he might be too small to, anyway. Not to mention he's lost everywhere he's been and he brings with him some baggage -- but he is a big contract and 2009 is supposed to be a great free agent class, so somebody will be willing to take him -- especially with the possibility that Kobe may be available in 2009 if he opts out.

Isiah Thomas is a tool, Marbury is an idiot, and they deserve each other.
