Kidd traded to Mavericks
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3244102
Man, the West is really stocking up this year. I think I might just make the All-Star squad for the East. If I do, I'll relegate ORS to the East reserves, where he should be.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
HOOOOOOORRIBLE trade for the Mavs.
Desperation move at it's peak right here. Harris is an excellent young playmaker who can score. Diop was an important piece of their team, great role player, he fit real well. Ager is a decent young kid, Stackhouse (whom I hear they might get back) is a solid 6th man as well.
But the two first rounders AND cash really tilts tihs overboard.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
I tend to agree with YH's view of the trade, I don't think it's AS horrible, but it's still a lot to give up for Kidd.
Still, Dallas gets the playmaker it needs.
I'm also excited to see Marcus Williams get his shot.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
Dallas is giving up a lot long term for the short term. I think it makes them as good as anyone immediately. Down the road they'll miss Harris. Dallas and Phoenix both took gambles... I think Dallas is the better team right now.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
Devean George blocked the trade. Wow...didn't see that one coming. Damn...I was hoping the Nets could rebuild with this trade.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
the deal is now final
"The eight-player deal, in the making since before the All-Star break, sends Kidd, forward Malik Allen and guard Antoine Wright to Dallas for point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop and swingman Maurice Ager, plus retired forward Keith Van Horn and Trenton Hassell. New Jersey also gets two first-round draft picks and $3 million"

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
Still a desperation move from Dallas, but Wright evens it out a bit, that kid can flat out score. Kidd will make them much better on the offensive end but this team looks a little weak defensively, especially whereas their 2nd best post defender and only other center is gone. They've got no front line and that'll kill them in the West, with Shaq and Amare, Duncan, etc., all out there.
I like this for NJ though, Harris is a great PG, Diop is a great role player, and two firsts? Nice haul.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
I agree with YH, the more I think about this trade the more I don't like it from Dallas's perspective.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
Kidd is way past his prime, he was playing with two other scorers, hence his high assist numbers, his rebounding numbers are so high because of how bad of a rebounding team they were, and he just can't score the ball like teams depend on their elite PGs to do. He'll still put up nice numbers playing along side Dirk, Howard, and Terry, but I like Harris in their system so much more than Dirk.
At least they ended up getting Wright though, Kidd and Allen would have looked just horrible for the Mavs.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
I really think this trade helps both teams, but down the road, the Nets couldn't have done much better. Give Thorn some credit.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
Just to chime in from the Dallas area... I'm a life long Celtics fan, so this trade doesn't effect me one way or the other, but everyone in Dallas seems to like this trade- except me.
I can't watch the Celtics down here, they're hardly ever on. So I do catch the occasional Mavs game, and although I am no expert, it seems to me the Mavs are just a bunch of soft jump shooters. They get punched in the face (see Golden State), and they just sit back and think about how bad that hurt, and then show they learned their lesson by taking jump shots the defense is happy to give up. Jason Kidd is effective when players go to the net and he can dish, the mavs don't do that. Case in point, Steve Nash. They didn't sign him because Pheonix gave him a huge deal and they thought he was too old to deserve that type of cash. Now look at him. The difference? In Dallas, all the players move around the perimeter, and settle for jump shots. In Pheonix, all the players cut to the net. Pheonix turned Nash from a very nice player into a 2 time MVP.
So now they have Kidd. Unless they change their willingness to settle for the jump shot, nothing will change, at all. The hype is that Kidd will get the players the ball in a better position to shoot. I'm not saying this isn't valuable, but the Mavs are NOT a running type of team, so this means: JUMP SHOTS!!! Horrible trade, all the way around.

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
Just to add, if you ARE a mavs fan, the one thing you can like is the Mavs finally have a leader, their own William Wallace, if you will.... hahaha. maybe if Kidd was around last year, the Mavs would have punched back when Golden State punched them squarely in the jaw. Deliver a speech, "THEY CAN TAKE OUR LIVES, BUT THEY WILL NEVER TAKE OUR FREEDOM!!!!" Their leader last year (Dirk??? Terry???? it's up for vote really...), just let the team sit back and say, "Ouch. Wow, that REALLY hurt... Geech, what are we going to do now, that hurt!!!"

Re: Kidd traded to Mavericks
I don't know much about the NBA, but how can a team trade a player thats retired. Also can teams file any sort of complaints after they trade for a player and he retires or refuses to play?
